Been looking into getting something big and nice :D

Though I dont know really where to look, or what to look for. Carbon steel would be nice and I was thinking traditional, wood handles brass or polised steel guard wood handle.

So far the CS lerado, that Browning one(:p) and thats all I can think of. Price limit is $160 and thats also American now seeing as our dollar is where it is. So what do you think guys?

Anything from Blackjack mabye?

Try handling one first, I could never get use to the "Coffin" style of handle on a working knife.

You might try an older Western W-49 in carbon steel or if you can find one, a BlackJack "Shining Mountain" Bowie, These are based on the old Collins #18 design and are good working knives, as well as being good looking.

I have not handled their larger designs, but Bark River has some useful looking designs as well.

yeah been going through the Blackjack models now they are stunning. I've heard to many bad things about the lerado to go for one, its worries me.

Any Ideas on a Western in carbon?
Also thought about going to some local antique shops, they allways have good working knives.

A SOG Tigershark is about as far from a traditional pattern as you could get.

Get a W49 in carbon steel and bob that stupid S guard.

If you are willing to Ebay, the older carbon steel Western's show up on Ebay for $150-175 new in box quite a bit. They are around $75-125 for an excellent to minty one without the paper work, etc......

Fonly,

I have a Western made from carbon steel and sharp as all get out, I'll trade it to you too. I like to refurbish them but they are getting a little too pricey for me.

PM me and I'll shoot you a pic.

What about some of the bowies here? Don't have any personal experience with them, but their made by ontario:

They look like their designed more for fighting but maybe they would work for you.

They are good knives, I have a Hell's Belle and have handled most of them.
They are stainless however not carbon steel.
My W49 will out cut and out chop my Belle and is a better field knife.
The Belle is a top notch fighter but it has a very fine point which can break with rough use.

i'd get somethin common like the trail master or kabar heavey bowie then strip and rehandle it.

i've been wantin to do that with an m2k.

I had the bug for a Bowie not to long ago, and bought a Kelsey Creek Camp knife...its above your price parameter. I can't say enough about this knife...it's fast and sharp!!! and it chops very well...its a distall taper, so I won't be prying any boulders with it...but thats not my style anywho. I'll put up a pic in a minute, Gene

There aren't too many in that price range other than the ones you listed.Bark River will have a new bowie out soon not sure of the price. I saw one of the prototypes with a 9 1/2 blade and Sambar Stag handle for $300.I was told the production run would be a lot less expensive.

The Browning competition chopper sure looks good to me.

how bout a $30-$50 buck 119?

it's a good knife, just don't try to baton with it. use it like a knife.
