for what it's worth, I don't think it was me that got Elliot to leave the moderator job.And Spark, I'm not asking anyone to take sides between me or Elliot, I just want people to express their feelings on the traditional forum.I think there needs to be some changes.Everyone on there for the most part are adult and well behaved.

You may have started off this thread with good intentions but you took it down a different path. I honestly believe you owe Blues an apology for some of the comments and accusations you threw out.

Speaking of gimps. I am one and in a lot of pain.

I know my brother well enough and do not want to loose him as a partner at BF.

No matter what there are things that keep the trad forum a special place to many of us and as long as Spark wants me there I plan to continue to do what I can to make sure the atmosphere stays at the level it has been when we started it is while listening to the members and addressing concerns.

I am going to be out for at least a week.

*EDITED* You din't read the pm's we had so you really can't judge. I don't think Blues left on account of me.If I appologize, which i did on here but retracted it, I will do so in a PM to Elliot when things blow over. 1300 views on this thread in a few days. It's almost comical.

I thank Thomasin for alluding to this thread in another forum. I had been unaware of it.

Of all the forums I visit here at, I feel most comfortable and most welcomed in the Traditional Forum. That comfort and sense of welcome has been maintained by Elliot and Gus, but mostly by Elliot.

A knife forum, by its subject matter, attracts some wild characters. IMO it does take a strong hand to maintain a corner of BF where there is an atmosphere of civility. Elliott has done that and I would be saddened if he felt that there were so little support for him that he could do so no more.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again: this forum (BF) and the Traditional forum specifically, are mod'ed better than any other forum I've participated in. This is the only place I'll let my son sit and look at threads with me.

The only reason for that is the quality of both the members and the moderators. By purview of our subject matter, this site is bound to attract a pretty varied group of characters; it's those personalities that make this place so informative & enjoyable. As for the mod's, well, they do a great - and sometimes tough - job of ridin' herd on this bunch, who sometimes exercise little or no self-constraint in what they post - and I've been guilty of that more than once myself. Personally, and I'm just speaking for myself here, I like the Traditional forum, and I hope it stays as it is now. (If I'm not interested in a particular thread, I don't click it. Simple.) The Traditional forum is a nice break from all the other 'shenanigans' that can, and oftentimes do, occur elsewhere on this site.

I'll refrain from answering accusations that have been made toward other folks here, but I will say that yet again, the mods have handled this situation in an exemplary manner.

If I had been the mod instead of Elliot, that would have been your last post. It speaks volumes on his patience, and level hand when dealing with folks like you.

It has been sad watching this thread develop. Like a car crash.
No matter who was originally at fault everyone gets hurt. Best to just let this baby die and play out as it will behind the scenes. The traditional forum is too nice a place to get tarnished by this mud flinging.

The reason the traditional forum is so great is the moderators. I had a thread moved that I thought would do best in the traditional forum. I was a little butt hurt about it, but I kept my mouth shut. A day later I realized and respected the reasons for the move. I'm glad I never complained or whined about the mods decision. Had I went with my initial reaction which was "how dare someone move MY thread without MY permission" I would have sorely regretted it.

I don't want the traditional forum to change in any way. I like the mods, the posts, and the people in it. Even though I don't post there too much, it is my favorite place to lurk.

Elliot knows me. I still like the man. we are having a disagreement. maybe call it a fight I don't know. Maybe that's why I wasn't banned. He knows me.

You might be right slim. Maybe this thread should be locked. I do believe the traditional thread will remain the same.

We aren't having anthing of the sort, Steve. I didn't ask for this and truly want nothing to do with it regardless of your feelings about me (good or bad).
(And, no, I don't think I do know you except for your posts in the forum and the handful of PM's you have sent.)

I was drawn into this and have only attempted to present my side in a reasonable and balanced fashion.
 
If I may...in the interest of (hopefully) expediting the conclusion of this melodrama, may I present the following?

This thread was originally started because the OP didn't like that production and custom slipjoints (and other traditional knives) were sharing the same space.

It then quickly morphed into a discussion of my failures and faults as a moderator in the Traditional Forum.

Okay...

The OP now has stated that he's okay (at least once) with the cohabitation of custom and production knives in Traditional.

I have voluntarily removed myself as moderator of the forum in question. (Much to the delight of some.)

I should think that this would put an end to the need for further discussion.

In my humble opinion anything further on this topic is best summed up below:

I'm happy to have this thread closed by you, Steve, but not at the expense of the truth.

Firstly, I haven't known you (let alone of you) for four years (and I've only moderated the forum for the last two or three years as I recall) and our PM's (to the best of my recollection) only go back over the past several months. They were never of a personal nature beyond discussing knives or topics inspired by the forum. Let's not make it more than it is. Yes, I was friendly with you as I would be with any other forum member I had occasion to reach out to.

Now, I'm happy to let the thread die its deserved natural death.
