Traditional friendship

Great experience. Thanks for sharing it. I got a little emotional thinking of that old gentleman making such a nice gesture, and telling you he was never able to pass anything on to his son.

I have to admit I felt about the same. Great story.

Understandable. I guess I didn't even think about that. I just thought it would be cool for this gentleman to receive a knife from someone halfway around the world that he has never met.

If you should get correspondence from him and he's OK with it I'm more than willing to gift him a traditional.

That's fine mate I reckon it is cool, thankyou again I'll be sure to let you know when he gets back to me.

That was the post of the week, if not the month! It is so great to hear that strangers can still become friends over something as simple as a knife. That is what I love about this forum.

This story ranks right up there with Jackknife's. Thank you for taking the time to share.

Absolutely amazing story! As a tinker fan, use that thing like no tomorrow. It is a wonderful knife! Have been carrying one for years.

I don't think I should be compared to the legend himself! I'm glad you liked it.

Well, it had the same effect of making my allergies act up. I don't know what it is that I'm allergic to in this room, but every time I read one of these stories I'm blinking and sniffing.

Terribly sorry about your allergies mate, I know what you mean.

Sam that is an absolutely fantastic story. This is what life is all about, acts of kindness like this and interacting with folks and getting to know them - take those few minutes and touch their world. I'm sure it meant a lot to him to have that conversation too. The spirit of the days-gone-by that these traditional pocket knives originate from obviously still brings out the best in folks - you literally see it in this forum. What other forum anywhere can you show me that has the family-atmosphere that this one does?? I've never seen one that's for sure.

You'll forever remember that moment ever time you reach into your pocket for that SAK

I agree, I was thinking that as I read it! A touching story indeed.

PS: I was referring to Cory Hess's comment that this story reminded him of one of Carl's stories, but my "Reply with Quote" attempt seems to have not gone through.

I'm 20 years old from Australia, and it always strikes me how few people have 'traditional' values. For example, most people, including my brother, reach for large power tools for simple jobs, when a SAK or some basic tools would do the same of a better job. I'm not condeming it, it's just an interesting observation I've made.

I'm with you there mate, the heritage we have has been lost to technology. Somehow when we all got a little more interconnected we stopped directly communicating and sharing with people. Ironic I know coming from a guy posting on an Internet forum from his smartphone. I try my darnedest to talk to one stranger a day and spend at least an hour outside. This way I feel I stay somewhat connected with the world around me. I'm glad I can bring the traditionals forum along though!

Hello,

Nice story, I enjoyed reading it.

Greetings and best wishes from South Africa.

Now if South Africa could only learn to play Rugby again.

:D :D

Fantastic story Sam, and very well told I thought. I do hope that you hear back from Henry, and maybe we'll hear more from him here one day :)

Jack

What an absolutely incredible story! Good on you for being kind to a stranger and thank goodness fro people like him and you. Generosity is one of the attributes that is perhaps the most honourable of all the attributes that can be given unto man.

Moving story, Sam; thanks for sharing it! I admire both you and Henry for your generosity, you with your time and Henry with his funds. And for what it's worth, IMO Henry has great taste! I've been carrying a Tinker and a Vic Classic every day for 6 months, and one or both of them serve me well almost every day. I usually carry another knife too, rotating on a weekly basis, but those are primarily "pocket jewelry" or "fashion statements"; the SAKs are the tools I count on.
