Traditional Knives and Pocket Watches

After posting a pic of my knife and watch, Eschwebach had a great idea for a thread so I figure lets make it so!

I like old pocket watches. I just carry enough stuff in my pockets as it is. :(

I carry a pocket watch -- it just happens to double as a camera, a GPS, an MP3 player, an ebook reader, a web browser, a game console and, occasionally, even a phone.

(You may be tempted to think I'm being a wiseguy, but I use that stupid thing to check the time 10x more than all its other functions put together.)

I like watches in general -- a few years back I went on a geek rampage and learned all about the escapements and how they changed over the centuries, became cheaper, more accessible, more reliable all at the same time. They strike me as a good match for pocketknives -- works of art that work, and much under-appreciated in modern life. Should be a good thread!

I think in years to come, wrist watches will become a thing of the past. Almost every kid today tells time from their phone.

More on topic.....I used to collect pocket watches but sold them off to concentrate more on knives. :)

My old man said a man should always have a watch, pocket knife, and bandana on him. The pipe is optional. The Westclock Scotty he gave me when I was ten. Told meif it was still running in a year, he'd get me a real wrist watch. A year later I got a Timex.

Here's an old Hamilton that my Father in law gave me years ago. Sorry for the glare:(

Best regards

Great pics guys! I havent actually carried one of these yet but am seriously considering it. Still think the wristwatch is more convenient and as for the cell phone I hate pulling it in and out all the time. Seems like I have to drag everything else out with it. I am only 35 but remember when I was younger and didnt have or need any stinkin cellphone! I do think their convenient and have their uses in emergencys and such dont get me wrong. Its the people who cant leave the house for 15 minutes without it that erk me. Sorry about the rant

Here is the watch I carry every day. My parents gave it to me when I was in college in the '70s. One of the last manual wind Hamiltons sold by LL Bean.

I wear 5-pocket pants all the time. My work slacks are black 5-pocket jean style industrial pants. Other than that, I pretty much wear blue jeans.

I have used this watch in a few pictures of knives that I have made. The watch is a Ball open face, with Starr gold filed case that my grandfather on my Mothers side left me.

Some great knives, and great watches in here. I'll have to dig some of mine out and take a few pics later! Inspired!
