Traditional knives and tools

Good supply of wood, you hard work has paid off.

Thanks. I still have a lot of wood to saw, split and stack. I will be ready for the two next winters. It's a hard work but i like it, it's almost a hobby.

What type of lumber is that? Looks like some hardwoods? We burn mainly Birch here as it's common and good for sauna but it burns hot & fast. Firewood prices have gone up 25% and more. At the country place the Hares killed 5 mature apple trees by stripping the bark off, only 3 left, this was due to abnormally high snowfall & not being able to go there, at least apple burns well when dry... And today I get a letter from the electric company cooly informing me of a 29% increase in prices from 1st Aug. This is only the beginning.....

I forgot about this thread :) Here's Merle Barlow on my mate's tool stall at Leeds market

I use oak, hornbeam, beech, birch, ash, rowan and this year i've had the luck to get alder, an excellent heat wood. The problem with that wood is that it's a very hard wood which has to be sawed and splitted when green. I got it seasoned and it has been a hard work to process it.
Here as well the prices are increasing dramatically. More generally the situation is deteriorating here, all that while i'm getting old. No luck !

Another addition to my 1/4" ratchet collection arrived.

This 1977 dated WRIGHT 2400 is nice, but I like my contour grip 2426 more.
The mechanism is the same between the 2400 and 2426, but they have lower back drag now as did the 2400 before being discontinued not too long ago.
This example I just got NOS is a bit older.

The 2400 is my absolute favorite, nobody in the US today makes a ratchet that comes close to having a head this small.

In fact the only American made ratchets I'm aware of that were ever made with a head as small or smaller are the Thorsen 77m that's a tad smaller, and the very scarce Blackhawk 24991 from the 40's.
( Google the Blackhawk nuggies set, very cool )
That little bugger can practically hide it's head behind a penny.

This isn't my tool, but this and many somewhat similar massive tools have been used/parked very regularly in my neighborhood over the past 2.5 years for several "infrastructure improvement projects". This particular machine is parked in front of our local branch of the public library about 1 year ago as a complete rebuild of Hall Street was nearing completion. (The knife in the photo IS mine, and it's a large Imperial toothpick, but it's not nearly as large as it appears to be. 🤓 )
