Was watching the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) this afternoon, and saw the lead actress used what looked like a stockman to pick the lock of an outhouse. Possibly an Imperial or Schrade.

Not a movie, but old TV show. I am a huge fan of the Gunsmoke series from way back. I noticed that there was a good amount of pocketknife sightings with Ken Curtis's character of Festus. Usually whittling on something while trying to get Doc to buy him a beer. It always seemed to be the same two blade texas style jack that got used when the scene called for a knife to cut something. Marshall Dillion would use it when he had to cut someone loose, or whatever.

The type of use was different too. The knife was never used as a weapon, but just taken out, used, and closed up with a quick swipe and put away. No flash, no flourish, no drama. Different era, different outlook.

Ahhhhh, the good old days...

Pierce Brosnan's character is seen doing some whittling with a small pen knife in....

Mama Mia!

It's one of my wife's favourite movies.

New show called Longmire. Sheriff Longmire uses a Buck 110 all the time.
Good show by the way.

I've seen that knife used twice in the show (first time after he flips his vehicle and uses it to cut his seat belt....don't remember what he used it for the second time). At first I too thought it was a Buck 110, but after looking at it carefully, it appears to be a Schrade LB7. Very similar knives, but I have owned both for more than 35 years and there are subtle differences which are easy to see if you're familiar with both knives.

The second time he uses the knife (that I recall) is to poke around in a dead body.

Edit: I just looked at the car crash scene again and I think you're right, it is a Schrade. The bolsters are different than a Buck's.

In Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison, Robert Mitchum plays a WWII Marine. Naturally he carries a Mark II. He uses that knife for many things, including making a comb for Sister Angela.

Carving a wooden comb with a Kabar would take some mad knife skills.

In Once Upon a Time in the West, Charles Bronson used a large jackknife, if I remember right, to whittle something.

In one of the Texas Chansaw Massacre sequels, Matthew McConaughey pulls out a Buck 110-looking knife.

I think I spotted a small stockman in the movie Virus.

In An American Werewolf in London, the leading guy pulls out a SAK when contemplating suicide in a phone booth.

I remember an episode of The Twilight Zone with a trio of con-people (two man and a woman)in a hotel room, and at the end, one pulls out his small slip-joint as a weapon against the other guy. And another episode where an old man uses a spear-pointed pocketknife blade to pry his way into a basement.

In the original Dawn of the Dead, one of the main actors uses what looks like an SAK while eating (I think).

In Night of the Hunter, Robert Mitchum plays a preacher/serial killer whose weapon of choice is a flat-ground switchblade.

I remember the harmonica, the jackknife and the fact that the movie took too long in some spots in Once Upon a Time in the West.

Not a movie either but on the TV show NCIS Gibbs Rule #9...Never go anywhere without a knife.

Gibbs uses a Gerber Fred Carter utility knife.

Ziva uses a MOD CQD Mark 1 auto.

Tony uses a Spyderco Endura.

McGee uses a Spyderco Native.

I believe it was in the "Shawshank Redemption", the old guy that gets released after a life sentence carves his name in a beam with an old stockman right before he hangs himself.

In the show Swamp People, Liz uses a Schrade Old Timer folding hunter, possibly a 25OT.

I watched Bridge Over The River Kwai today and when the commando unit treks through the jungle to blow out the bridge they are doing some machete work to make trail. No idea what type but they look like military issue Collins or some latin style and not in country-enep or parang. Good movie, sobering how many POW's per mile of rail were killed through the Burma jungle.

Just watched Magnificent seven last week, Charles Bronson uses a very nicely patina d big folder to whittle a whistle for a little girl in the village.

Yup, and later Morgan Freeman's character finds himself in the same room, and iirc uses a Barlow to add his name.
