"Traditional" means traditional...

Tradional pocket knives will never be hip, or on the cover of Lady GaGa's newest album cover.
Greg

Maybe not, but Traditional knives will still be around, long after Lady GaGa's career has faded into the sunset.

Sorry, my mistake.

Please don't ban me from the whatchamacallit forum.

Well, you see, Elliott said he really didn't want that there 'watchamacallit forum moderator job', so I think yer safe. What you gotta watch out for is us members of the fanatical-grammatical-proper-nomenclature-&-pattern-name posse here in Traditional. Yup, we're the ones you gotta watch out for . . . :D

Okay, one other question for this thread ...... which new sub-forum (what-cha-ma-call-its, or thingy-dings) do we send people to who want to talk about "SLIPPIES"??? :foot:

Whatever forum Kerry frequents. He loves to talk about 'slippies'. And 'knife purses' too. Can't forget those! :p

This place, Blade Forums Traditional, is a place to get squared away straight.

In all seriousness, that's absolutely true.

Tradional pocket knives will never be hip

I must respectfully disagree with that thought - and I would NOT say that to anyone around here. (You'd probably wind up tied to somebody's winter salt lick.) There are still quite a few traditional slipjoints being used here; some of the guys in our older generation really dislike [read: spurn, hate, loath, etc.] the newer, larger, 'tactical' types of knives.

or on the cover of Lady GaGa's newest album cover.

 Good Lord. My brain just exploded a little.

Knife Head,

S&M make a knife that they call Saddlehorn.
In the thread you commented indirectly about the name.
I asked you will you please explain the correct name and what a Saddlehorn iknife looks like.

The manufactures are using non-traditional names.
Close then down?
People don't know the correct names either.
There are new people that come aboard all the time.

So they will not know the difference between a moose and bullhead.
Will you tell them again?

All that is needed is a one liner,
This is not the traditional name for this pattern knife, the traditional name is XXX

Frustrating?
yes

But very helpful.

Saddlehorn is a modern term. I'm not sure when it started but it's been called that since I can remember. If you look through the old catalogs you will find it listed by all companys as an Arkansas Hunting Knife. Names will elvolve but profiles of a pattern does't change much. Folks the knife S&M is making is a fiddlehead, it ain't no saddlehorn.

Traditional knives are still looked upon quite favorably. I say that because when I have had to use my slippies at functions they always seem to elicit a positive response. Either for their looks or for the nostalgia. Never got remarks about my "black one-handers" though. So I think that tells me something.
