Traditional SAK's

Do you guys consider Alox or wooden handled SAK's to be traditional knives? I have always loved my Cadet that I have carried for almost 5 years. I just want to know if I need to keep this discussion in the MT Forum.

The opinion of the moderators is that SAKs which do not have a one-hand opening blade and which are not actually multi-tools are fair game in the Traditional Forum. That includes Alox handled variants.

The basic SAK design is over 100 years old and the Lobster style knife dates back even further. "Traditional" is more about the design style than it is the materials of construction.

I you don't have a 93mm ALOX SAK...the Electrician is a wonderful way to start but be warned, it can lead to others and others and others! ;)

Nice display Robert.....too bad about the rest or you'd really have a huge collection....

We love the Alox knives!

One of the few other knives I own and use. This is the one I stuck in the ground after gutting an quartering a cow elk in NW Colorado. I forgot it and it spent the winter, summer and some fall time till my hunting buddy wandered back by a year later and found it for me. One side was a little faded from the sun but the blades were all perfect.....the closed blade is a bottle opener, the curved blade started out as a scalloped edge rope cutting blade but I smoothed it up and it is a belly zipper..........300Bucks

Nice guys, I've had the electrican but ended up with this one, as I like the small hawkbill blade for lots of handy cutting tasks, this is the Pioneer Harvester which I guess is out of production? Does anyone know of another Alox handled Vic that also has this type of hawkbill blade?

I see an online auction listing for an Alox Apprentice and the picture shows a hawkbill blade. I was about to tell you this but now I'm looking into it and it seems to be a mistake; the Apprentice has a sheepsfoot. Maybe someone else can say for sure but I'm not seeing it outside this one 'buy it now' shipping from Taiwan.

I don't consider them to be traditional knives but that doesn't mean I don't like them. Just one mans opinion.
Why would modern renditions of old patterns made by Victorinox not be considered traditional when modern renditions of old patterns made by GEC be considered traditional?

Well, sold my silver Alox MiniChamp to a fellow at work, in the end it didn't replace my Executive as well as I had anticipated ;) still a great little knife and the guy loves it! So, I'm putting that bit of fund towards my

Apocalypse Green Rancher

Looks to be a pretty nice knife, slightly thinner than my Pioneer Harvester as it doesn't have the saw, which I rarely ever used, so it's a win win :) might post up my old Pioneer Harvester to help round out that expenditure!

Thanks SAK Guy for the lead, my first buying experience with SwissBianco, we'll see how it goes but by all reports, a very solid company. Once it arrives, of course I'll post up some images :)

Great news Gary and you are welcome!

Here's some luscious Apoc Greeness to pine over! :D
