Traditional whimsy and the unordinary

I pulled out few and took some pics. Hopefully these all qualify...

Tie clip

Some mini's

Glenn, What a show. Thanks for sharing.

Agreed; very cool, Glenn! :thumbup::thumbup:
The first couple of photos were my favorites: the baseballs and bats, and the tie clip. What does the back side of the tie clip look like? Is it sort of a one-jaw alligator clip, or the sharp post - tie tack set up?

Neither, it's just a friction fit clip

Here are some knife oddities:thumbup:

That's gotta be the fastest shield around Paul.;)

What interesting examples of weird, but wonderful, cutlery!
Thanks for sharing them, folks.:thumbup:

I agree with navihawk. mykel, how does the one on the left work? Does there appear to be a different message ("CRAFTSMAN" or "The Greatest Name in Tools") depending on the angle from which you view the knife?

I don't wear a tie every day, but I often wear a tie one or two days a week. It would be cool to have tie clasps that represent some of my interests, like a slide rule tie clip to reflect my interest in mathematics, or a miniature baseball bat because I'm a baseball fan, or some kind of knife-related tie clip. I've now seen examples of all those things, but unfortunately, haven't had the opportunity to buy any of them yet. I wonder if I could modify a Vic Classic to serve as a tie clasp? (Maybe something as simple as gluing a Classic to a cheap "normal" tie clip?)

My wife just laughs when I say, "Fashion is my middle name!" :D

Hello GT,sorry for the late reply.
I think the effect on the one is or was called 3D?That's what we called it as kids anyways.
It do indeed change with the viewing angle.

Barbecue Knife breaks down for eating tools.

I have a red plastic handled "Picnic" knife like this one, that you have to open the fork to unlock the two halves.

This one is shaped like a rocket, AND.....it has a whistle with a little "propellor" inside that makes a sort of whizzing sound. :D

I hope the second picture doesn't scare any small children!
That's a cool one CC.
I had to let one of those go to a higher bidder a while ago......

Thanks, Glenn. I'm going to have to try making one of those for myself.

Great collection Glennbad and fantastic pics, nice to see them my friend

I have this "bullet" knife I picked years ago. Can't remember where I got it or how much I gave for it, but I know it wasn't much. It's actually very well made and the blade is razor sharp. One side is "UNITED", the other side says "UC865 ITALY". Headstamped "R-P 44 Mag" and is the exact size of a real .44 Mag cartridge. It will, in fact, fit into a .44 Mag chamber (not that I have tried...). Kinda neat, but a bit small to really use for anything.

OK here goes, this one is not whimsical but certainly unusual. I consider it a tiny work of art...

Japanese scout knife, probably sold as a souvenir, definitely old. Hand-inlaid scene using damascene (same process as damascus, but in this case, with a handheld wire and something like a soldering iron apparently). The highlighted tones are 24K gold, as denoted by the "K24" which looks hand written.

IMG_9947%20sm.JPG

The tiny scene depicts a quiet fishing village complete with 24K seagulls, a full moon (or sun), and a mountain in the background.

scene2.JPG

Here, you can see the temple(?) and village, again with 24K accents. And then, in the background... sure appears to be an erupting volcano to me! Although I think it could be a river or stream, I'm thinking "volcano."

scene1%20sm.JPG

Now, here's the kicker... this entire knife is about 2-2.5" long.

Hope you enjoyed it as much as I have. I also quite enjoyed the challenge of taking such intricate macro photos to document it.

Great thread guys! Here's a few of my "whimsy knives".

Notice in the wooden Jackmaster case here that you see a few of the Bowling knives and over to the left 2 different magic knives in covers not normally seen.
