Traditionals and Cast Iron Cookware

They showed it being cleaned, dried, oiled, baked for an hour, and turning off the oven to let it cool.
That is how i have always done it. And i leave the pan in the oven to cool overnight, then repeat the process without the cleaning up to 2 times. Always worked for me. Cast Iron is like a lot of things, the better prep you do the better the finished result.

That's pretty much what I have been figuring out.
Maybe this will be useful with a barbecue.
Even with a set of fire irons for outdoor cooking. My stove is one of those old ones with the coils that sit above the surface, so I've had good luck with the griddle. Even just a couple pieces or rebar cut to length would give you the clearance you need over some coals.

That's the kind of stoc I had before and wish I still had, but it was about 30 years old and finally needed to be replaced.
I like those better, but there are some nice things about glass tops.

Mines pushing 30 years old now... It came with the house. I replaced the heating element from the oven with one I pulled from the scrap yard about 10 years ago now, it's still going strong, but I know it's only a matter of time before it needs to be replaced.

Can you still get/find replacements. ???

On mine the burners were loose and not square, there was probably a way to fix it but I was just tired of dealing with the damn thing.

There's a fellow in the area who does home appliance repair, he's who I call when I can't get things sorted on my own. If he doesn't have the necessary parts he keeps a small supply of refurbished appliances on hand for reasonable prices.

They're very handy those sorts of people, worth there wait in gold in this throw away society.

I have an obstacle in seasoning one of my Swedish pans: it has an Oak clad handle which cannot be removed so it's impossible to bake in the oven. I let it heat up on the hob after cleaning from time to time, causes plenty of smoke but it's not baking.

Oh I really like both. How old is the pan? Thanks for showing them off. The moose is a beaut.
I just received it I wanted a #12 and decided to give smithy a try I have had field and stargazer but gifted them to my kids as they wanted to start cast iron cooking.both field and stargazer are great but decided to give smithy a try

Do you by chance have a grill? Leaving the handle sticking out of the top while you season it might work.
