I don't mean state park hiking trail, neither :D This is for 'hitting the trail'- woodswalking, "dayhunting." Here in CA where you aren't supposed ot pack firearms while bowhunting, it's a perfect finishing knife design. If I were gonna go for a stroll through the Supestitions like I did when I was a kid, this (and the .22) is what i'd think of carrying.

This is the first one. on the short side for what it is (which is a modified gaucho, I suppose) with only a 5.5 inch blade. Handle is the same length. I've got one in progress at 5 nches on the handle, that works well, too. Ideally I'll be doing these up in the 6-8 inch blade range for the most part.

Just an excuse to post photos of my favorite pistol :D :D :D

Seriously- it's a straight spine, so it's almost sorta like the leuku pattern, but I think there's a lot of difference. the belly is much more tapered, and the blade hits a longer and slimmer feel even though this one is 1.5 inches broad at the hilt. That slight angle at the point is REALLY cool, I often poke a knife into a (work)table top when I'm letting oil soak into the handle. This one just thunked right in over a half inch to the woodtop with a normal everyday poke.

good work on that one, although i think i already said that in your forum. the handle has a nice shape to it.

I like it Christof!!!

There is something about that long handle with the self guard combined with a coffin taper toward the butt that makes it look comfy to me.

With an 8” blade it’s my kind of Trail Knife. :D

I hate to say it, but if I ran Norinco, I'd be tooled up and pumping out reproductions of the 999 by the thousand.

Mike- it's the kind of handle design I like to put on the big dirks, too. CBryant suggested I try it out smaller, and it's pretty sweet. The transition curves at the butt are rounded enough that you can still do a lot of funky modified grips without a lot of hot spot torture.

So.... I have a question for all of ya..... What kind of sheath do you think would work best? I'm open to suggestions :P

Great knife. I dig it. Hmmmm sheath.....how about one that can be modded for horizontal and vertical, able to attach to Molle webbing, is tight enough to hang upside down, yet doesn't have any extra straps on or around the handle?

As far as a sheath, I agree w/Rockywolf, something that can hang horizontal or vertical. Maybe a sheath that could be attached to the shoulder strap of a back quiver for bowhunting?

ahh man, I cant wait to try the leuku thats on pass around, this is just making me drool more!:D

.....So.... an expedition sheath with a little bit of tweaking? Christof had to show me what MOLLE was, I think that is do-able :P. Thanks for your input :D.
