tramotina

I have a 12", 14", and a Bolo. I have yet to put the bolo to some serious work, but I have beaten the heck out of other two. They hold up great and they sharpen up really easy with a file or patio stone.

I've got a few Tramontinas...

Tramontina machetes, bet 'ya can't buy just one...

Mac

Is there a source for this type of sheath in the US?? those are really awesome!

Doc,

That's a Krikati Indian packbasket. I'd have to look through my files to see if I have any other photos of it. I use it like a golf bag for my machetes. Mac

Hector,

Where are you in Brazil? I normally live in BH but I'm exiled to Pennsylvania this year. Good to see someone else posting from Brazil.

Abraços,

Mac

hey Mac,

I live in Brasilia, good to see you here too.
I`ve seen almost all your videos on youtube, thanks a lot for some great info (never thought of using a "cupinzeiro" as a stove) and great tips on the machete grinds. it seems everybody here is trying that on their machetes.
abracos!!

Thanks Mac. I've made a few baskets, so I appreciate, even more, one that beautifully done.

Most seem to go for the wooden handled Tramontinas, is that because the wood is better/more comfortable than the plastic or is it simply due to availability?
Is there any real difference between them?

I wanted the wooden handled one to be able to shape the wood.
the plastic handles are hollow IIRC.

I have a small one, really like it,but have gone through a couple of canvas sheathes, would really like to get my mitts on some of those leather sheathes, look great!

Almost any of the Central or South american machetes are hard to beat!

I have a 16 but I want one of those 12's now they look really handy and packable.
For a long time I thought that machetes were only good on vegation and not useful in the pine forests where I live but I was wrong. I really need to improve my technique though.

My Tram came with a nice synthetic leather sheath but nothing like those ornate hand made ones. I am still more into my CS norse hawk that I modded for a lightweight chopper but I am coming around to the machetes.

Olha, brazileiros!
It is surprising to hear that you cannot find Tramontinas with wooden handles in Brazil. I saw only wooden handled Tramontinas in Manaus and Recife.
By the way, many people prize highly Tramontinas in Rissian forums, it is cheap, comfortable and light. The only drawback is that it gets dull quickly, but because it is thin you can still chop reasonably well. I guess Tramontina works in any climate.
I do not have a machete, but I have Tramontina knife that I bought 11 years ago in Slovakia. By now it travelled 20+ countries and it is my favourite knife even though I have Busse and will get Randall in a few months (it is in process to be born).

I have a 12 inch Tram.I like it a lot, only the handle is awfuls - it's wooden, but wrapped with some kind of wire-it wasn't comfortable at all. After I wrapped it with tape it has become super comfy :) Tomorrow i'll send it to a friend of mine,to convex it.

I'm THIS close to buying a batch of Trams from SMKW. Probably a 12", a 14" and two Bolos.
After than i need a CS 12" Bowie (and maybe a Bolo), a Linder and a Condor and i'm done!
:D
Then after all that i have to make sheaths for them. Something for me to do over the long winter.
