Trend Airshield pro

I want to buy one, but all the reviews of the headband breaking are stopping me. Especially since my shop is pretty cold in the winter. I'm guessing anything plastic and prone to breakage is even worse in the cold.

My head band broke. Trend replaced it with one from a new batch in a couple days. This was over a year ago and no trouble with the band since. Good company to deal with.

My grandfather was a plater for rolls royce and exposure to cyanide additives and other nasty chems was pretty common in the plating of copper, silver gold and chromium. He worked on airplane engine parts during the WWII. Eventually it killed him due to interstitial lung disease. Safety standards were a bit more lax in those days.

Hey, sorry to bring up an old thread, but was wondering, if anyone could recommend a good air powered respirator for protection from vapors? Have a spray booth and some of the lacquers I'm using call for something more than a simple half face mask I've used up until now.

The Trend Airshields look ideal for me, re price/fit/size but they are for wood dust only - anything similar for spraying?

Thanks in advance for any help / suggestions!

I got myself the 3M Versaflo system. I've just begun to use it, but it feels great. Their site also states that it's suitable for paint spraying.

That is what I use most of the time, now. I have the battery and blower unit sitting on a tool cart near the grinder. I made a longer hose, and just pick up the hood as I step up to the grinder. This allows me to move around easily over about eight feet of space, and I don't have the battery and blower on my waist or back. The long hose makes it much more likely that I won't take the hood off and do some small task .... and not put it back on.

Thank you both.

Are these connected to an air compressor? Was looking for something more like the trend one that's a self contained unit? Don't mind having stuff attached to my waist, but don't really want to hook it all up to the air compressor.

No, they are self contained blowers with dual or triple filters. The blower feeds the hose to the hood. It is normally worn on a belt pack on the small of the back, and there is also a back pack version. The rechargeable battery is clipped on the belt or clipped to the back pack. One charge lasts about 8 hours.
