I'm never "trendy" so I can't help with what might be popular currently (instead of just what I like), but I'm happy to see you found a company to work with and you're on track to get a run of Sparrows out Josh. 👍

Can't vote for multiple, so I voted for FatCarbon -- but I'd have liked to add Ultem under other.

You need to go with what YOU WANT, some of the trends right now are terrible like that urine colored semi clear plastic (ultrem?)or the neon multi colored plastic garbage.
Nothing beats Ti as a starting point.

Also don't discount the classics like staghorn. I have a solid relationship with the top suppliers of strontium aluminate glow if you want a solid color by day and a glow in literally any color you can imagine by night, be glad to hook you up with Technoglow.
A five minute charge and the stuff glows for 3-4 hours easy.

I'd say that most of the knives that come out with inlays now days usually include Fatcarbon (and the like), and natural/black/green micarta (canvas or linen).

What'd I'd personally like to see though would be a nice Ironwood inlay, or white linen/paper micarta, or a very thin copper/brass inlay that doesn't hardly weigh anything but is enough for looks and to show patina (sort of like Wingman EDC does on a few of their knives).

I’ve seen a lot more fat carbon lately. Even the Williams folder using it as a complete integral.

Ultem

Horse mat rubber, is much more "Derilique!"

I always thought that Elforyn was recycled Cool Whip tubs. I am glad to be set straight and know they are using elf bones.
Yes, and don't worry they are using the bones sustainably, and meeting all the current regulations.

Ok though joking around

Blue jean micarta is pretty cool IMO.

I regret that I can only upvote this post once. I hate Ultem for this exact reason.

Without the proper (and properly heat-treated!) steel: your question is meaningless!
First: build it right!

I have no doubt that REK won't make a production model unless the manufacturing capabilities of the OEM are very well established, and that the quality control on them will be better than any of the big knife companies that we tend to like so much. My midtech version is legitimately the best tuned framelock that I've ever felt. I've felt a lot of really good quality knives, but this one feels like a lot of hand tuning went into it.
