Derek and Mike have invited me to go and visit the Bark River shop this week. I'll leave tomorrow. I love seeing new shops. I get to do this a lot in the Ga Knifemakers Guild and Flint River Knife Club. You always learn a lot by just how each man sets up his shop space. I'm sure I will learn a ton on this trip. Wish me luck.

Very cool! Hopefully you'll get some good inspiration for the setup of your new shop!

Safe travel Andy......enjoy the change in routine & environment.....you deserve it !

Safe travels and good luck to you! I stop in there often, say hello to Mike and son Jim for me.

Cool! It's beautiful up there! I plan on spending some time in the Hiawatha National Forest this summer.

Andy, have a safe and fun Journey. You're lucky being able to do this. :)

Sounds like a great trip, hope you have a great trip. I'm curious whether Mike indeed keeps a copy of each model with a black handle.

Good chance he does, I have seen his Bravo series all lined up in black. I used them to get a hands-on feel for size reference when I was in the hunt for one. It was great...

I hope that you have a fun and safe trip Andy. Mike is a generous guy when it comes to sharing his knowledge. He will probably have some good advice concerning your venture into the mid-tech line, since that is close to their business model. I will be curious to hear your comments about the differences between your convex grinding technique versus theirs.

Enjoy the trip!

Phil

Good luck sir. I don't mean to derail this thread, but it kind of goes with it.

Why is Georgia like the Mecca of custom knife making? Is it based on your strong guild or are Georgians just good knife makers and the community supports it?

Bark River is a great company. My 1st real knife purchase was a Bravo 1. So in a way it's Mike's fault that I now have 10 Fiddlebacks :-P It'll be a fun time sharing knowledge I'm sure. Enjoy!

That's a cool opportunity Andy. I always enjoy my visits to the Bark River shop. Phil was right when he said "Mike is a generous guy when it comes to sharing his knowledge". He's full of history and cool stories. Tell Mike Hi.

Have a safe trip

Good luck and safe travels. Should be a fun trip as well as a good opportunity to step back, clear your head and hopefully come back refreshed.
