Trip to Escanaba

That sounds like a fun and interesting trip. Hope you have great time!

Here's a fun pic for this thread. A rare Bark River made - Mid Tech Fiddleback Forge Recluse

Good luck sir. I don't mean to derail this thread, but it kind of goes with it.

Why is Georgia like the Mecca of custom knife making? Is it based on your strong guild or are Georgians just good knife makers and the community supports it?

IMO, it is because of the GA Knifemakers Guild and the Flint River Knife Club. There have been a lot of great makers from here historically too. One day I hope to be among them. Right now though, I just tag along and learn from the greats. Carl Rechsteiner, The Twin Blades brothers, James Mitchell, Dennis Bradley, Bill Snow, Wayne Hensley, Scott Davidson, Allen Surls (IMO, you have to put Allen on the list these days. He is making knives I cannot make.), Dylan Fletcher, man there are a bunch more too. Our Guild meeting usually consists of 60 or 70 knifemakers and features three demo's, a lunch and an iron in the hat. 4 of those a year and two of Carl's Hammerins and then Bladeshow. There is a knife tradition here.

Driving or flying?

Flying.

That's a nice opportunity! We wish you safe travels and hope that you have a fun time! Oh, and you truly are one of the greats, my friend! Safe journeys, Andy!

The very last deer hunting trip I took before leaving Michigan was in Escanaba. Killed a fat little four point.
Good memories!

When the cats away....the mice will play

Good thinking Vance. I am authorizing you to profile a dozen CPM 154 Padres tomorrow. Hurry up and heat treat them too and glue up some handles so that it is too late to turn back next week. :D You owe us for torturing us all the time with pictures of your Padre.

Remember that it is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

+1  Slate blue with black pins, please.

Andy, have a great trip. That sounds like a lot of fun!

I don't know Phil
Andy would have a tough time finishing them...might be more "wall art" when he gets back

Andy is much more skilled now than he was a year and a half ago when he made the last ones. I know that he can do it. All he needs are those profiled and heat treated blanks to prove that he has the mojo now to knock them out one after another. I believe that you guys can do anything you set your minds to. :)

If Andy's gone all week, I say do a "Padre Thursday" (I know - doesn't go together) and sell a dozen CPM 154 Padres before Andy's the wiser.

Oh, and have a good trip Andy! ;) :D

Seriously though, sounds like a great time.
