And people laugh at my snorkel. Got mine used for $50 and not alot of cash imho for a little insurance. Plus it has cut back on the amount of dust i get in my filter.

I don't know of trucks that don't suck . I do know of a truck that does suck though.I have a dakota 05 i got new and it sucks. It has 65000 ,on my third trans, the door hinge just broke ,its just a piece.oh and before anyone says it ,no I've never used it for work and drive like a old man. The heaviest load that was every on there was my sisters couch . While the truck was in shop the dealership gave me a subaru and boy did I get to test it in the snow. It will def. be my next auto . After plowing in a two feet of snow blizzard I got back to shop to see the sub completley buried in a drift of snow. I shoveld just enough snow to get in ,put it in reverse and it shot right out ,felt like I was in a subaru commercial .

My 2001 Ford F-150 does not suck. Well, it does suck a little too much gasoline with that 5.4L Triton V8. But it rides so good, I drove it straight through from Brunswick, GA to San Antonio, TX. It loves the open road. :D

+1......

Then I have one of these to play with..... ;)
Mine has a camper shell on it and is OD Green....... for now.

1985 K30 pickup / J code 6.2L diesel / TH400 3 speed automatic / NP208 transfer case.
Dana 60 front axle with limited slip
Corporate 14 bolt rear axle with Detroit Locker
4.56 gears

Great truck! Not so great on fuel economy...

Fuel economy is over rated.

This was my 77'. The older stuff is easy and fun to work on if you are able to. But for me not practical.

I had a 73' my Grandad and I redid. Neat old vehicles...your new one is a vast improvement IMHO.

What exactly do you plan on doing with it? Off-roading? What type? Slow? Fast? Mud?

Unless you're a carburetor fanatic, I recommend sticking to something with EFI. You've got tons of options... time to make a list of the things that are important to you and go from there.

I'm a big fan of 87-96 Twin Traction Beam Fords. An EFI 302 is still capable of relatively decent mileage. They can be made to work extremely well off-road (fast, rough stuff). Broncos are essentially the same thing. They can be stupid(scary)-fast in the rough.

Explorers and Rangers are basically the same thing only smaller. In my opinion, the 4.0L Ford is one of their best engine ever. They run clean and well forever and make great power where you need it. The auto transmissions can be weak if not maintained and kept cool but I've had good luck with them. The 5 speeds hold up really well. Best of all, even with lift and tires, the 4.0L is still capable of 20 plus mpgs on the freeway.

TBI Chevys are good and easy to work on. I would stay away from the independent front suspension trucks unless you only want a street queen. K5 Blazers can be had with TBI and solid axles... great combo, cheap parts and easy to work on.

Landcruisers are great. They can be expensive to modify and work on (or pay someone to), but they're Toyotas....

I could go on and on. Give us some specifics on what you want to do and we'll give suggestions accordingly.

This is my truck:

Couldn't agree more, especially on the TBI Chevy. I had a 78 full size Bronco, wish it was EFI...it was a solid front axle though.

I've found Fords are more expensive to work on than Chevys. Darn Govenment Motors thing kind of bothers me though.

Your Bronco, is really great!

I'm in the market for an F-250, although what you have to say about Toyota trucks is interesting...

Another fun project would be an International Harvest Scout...

More pics?

Your Bronco, is really great!

Thanks. It's a lot of fun off-road and blows me away every time I give it a good work out. It really is amazing how predictable and controllable Broncos remain at speed in really rough terrain.

Definitely NOT a 2007 F-150. Mine = spun crank bearing and bent rod, 39k miles. Driven like grandma, full syn oil change every 5k. Never towed, driven on flat land. All maintenance done. Ford will not honor 4/50k warranty because I am missing *one* oil change receipt from 10k miles.

First and last ford I ever buy. Piece of freaking garbage.:mad::mad:

I'm not in the pack, but I'm trying. So I thought I'd through up a pic of what I have. It's the only thing I drive (everyday!!!), really easy to work on, and it's value is always going up.

Plus no electronics or computer B/S in it either. :D

I drive this and love it but...

I am terrified of repair bills. $8k tranny $20k replacement cost are freakin retarded!

I think its a great rig. Great offroad. The v8 is a nice 310 hp but mpg ranges from 20 to 8 depending on how you drive it:cool:.

don't think i'd ever recommend one cause of the cost of repairs:(.

Heres my '98 F150. 260K miles all original except for tranny that was built at 240k.
currently sitting on a 5.5" lift, with stock tires :(

I had that same white Toyota Land Cruiser...4 of them. Out of all the suv's past and present, by far my favorite. I couldn't get that thing to lose control in the snow if I tried. I have had different ones since, but I really miss those. Great turning radius.

hey guys ill add my .2cents. i spent 6 years pulling wrenches on oilfield trucks up here in Sask / alberta. these are trucks that run 365 days a year no matter the weather and when your in the patch time is money so these trucks get driven hard. the most bullet proof truck IMHO is the ford twin I beam suspension 86-96. actually any ford truck new or old are pretty durable, my second choice would be to drive a dodge 1ton with a cummins engine.

I have a buddy that is a VW mechanic and that is one of the most expensive SUV's to work on . he discouraged me from buying one for my wife due to the repair bills after warranty is gone

I owned and drove Chevy's since I was 15 untill I bought this Toyota Tundra, so far it's by far the best truck I have owned for the money!
