Hello,

I am curently in search for a new dagger and I hesitate between three different models:

_Spartan Blades, Spartan-George V-14 Dagger CPM-S35VN
_Extrema Ratio, Suppressor Operativo Bohler N690
_Cold Steel, Taïpan 3V or San Maï

I am in serach of a true combat dagger.
The dagger must have sharp edges!
It won't be use for utility it will be a military use only dagger.
I hope not but the fact I have to use it in a real fight is probable (third deployment).

Can you give me some advises on these knives (Or on similar knives)?

Best regards.

Did you need a knife for a "real" fight during your first two deployments? Where were/are you being deployed to?--KV

3V is very tough and Cold Steel Taipan is a great fighting knife , but a more utilitarian pattern might be better for your use in the field . Combat knives very rarely get used for fighting these days . More of a camping / survival type knife might be wiser . Or a multitool . ;)

I have the Cold Steel, Taïpan in 3V and it's awesome. Very solid feel to it and well worth the price.

I also have the following:
- Les George: (TWO) Galvos Daggers in CTS-XHP, with (TWO) leather sheaths, and (TWO) kydex sheaths.
- RMJ: (TWO) Black Raider Daggers in CPM-3V, each with Kydex sheaths.

They are each very different. I am not sure which will hold an edge longer or be tough for a military deployment.

He's gotta fight the POG's to get in the chow line :D
Yeah, I guess. I notice he hasn't responded to my questions.-I'm not sure a Company C.O. would be ok with something like that being carried. I know none of my C.O.'s from '72 to '76 would have.--KV

Did anyone say... DAGGERS?!?! I love daggers. Recently I was lucky enough to find a Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife as produced by the Egginton group for Commonwealth special forces.

The applegate fairbairn dagger as produced by Boker might be a better option for you. It doesn't have as weak of a tip and you might get it sharp enough for other field use and cutting.

Btw, regarding your original choices I have one word: Overpriced. Extremely overpriced. What is more, if you are really going to engage in CQB and there is a higher probability of you getting killed, do you really want a bad guy to end up with your fancy, overpriced and mostly useless dagger? Hell no. Get something cheaper but proven to be good like the boker.

OP, you can get a custom made dagger for about the price of your first 2 choices.
The boker is so so for the price, you got what you pay for.
Support your local knifemaker, he is probably bored making booooowies and he will be happy to get you the dagger of your dreams!

Who cares guys. Look at his name. Something tells me this guy is gunna get a dagger.

D DaggerFan of thkse three you listed the Cold Steel is probably going to be the heaviest with the broadest blade. However it will probably have the best cutting ability.

The Spartan blades dagger is from an excellent company run by veterans. However The design of the v14 and the Extrema Ratio supressor mean they are only going to be useful for stabbing people and not much else. I hope you don’t ever plan on prying anything with the tip of your dagger. Unless you want to see it break off. (You could check out the Fox Knives bellum which is also in this catagory)

That said I personally believe that since you will be carrying the dagger all the time and using it maybe once if you are extremely unlucky; what you really need is a lightweight portable dagger that is secure in your hand for getting an enemy off of you or your rifle.

That is why I recommend you look at the Benchmade SOCP or Spartan Blades CQB tool. (They are essentially the same knife) Get a swiss army knife or multitool for utility cutting.

It is the knife on the right in this pic.

...it's funny, the one practical military experience I have, it seemed that most 'military use' of knives really equaled utility use. Of course, that was not on a front line ...
why not stick with simplicity (and low cost) like a kabar?

If price is a factor, I think you should look into the Blackhawk uk-sfk. It's a solid piece of d2 and seems to be well reviewed. Or maybe a Gerber trident, which doesn't have the traditional dagger profile but is double edged.

Extrema Ratio Pugio

I love my Pugio dagger but honestly I consider it entirely useless until I get it a custom sheath.

Take a look at this utterly insulting sheath they sent it with. No way anyone can wear this except foe someone in full webbing, or maybe a police utility belt. Anywhere else it looks extremely out of place and obvious.

The picture doesn’t really show how wide this sheath is from one flat side of the sheath to the other. The dagger is held in by the structure at the mouth and rattles around inside the sheath freely.
