Recommendation? True combat dagger choice.

Not a combat vet here, I was busted out on a medical from the Navy in '81. But I've been around a bit, and have a thought. The OP wants a dagger, he's more than likely going to get a dagger. He really wants one of the three he's listed, and is looking for validation. Can't help ya there, bud, never used any of them. But, if he's truly on his third deployment, and IF he's actually doing house to house sweeps or something combat oriented, I see no reason why he shouldn't have something for an emergency back-up. Luck is good, but luck runs out. I'd buy TWO daggers, tho. One of the three he really wants, to send home after his third off-base patrol, so he can honestly say he carried it on missions. And then either the Kabar Ek, or the Boker Applegate/Fairbairn(would be my pick), to carry on missions.

Unless this is something that you've been instructed to get, then there is every chance of it being confiscated at some point. I'd buy something in country for a few bucks & if I still wanted it after my tour, I'd mail it home. My personal preference as a back up weapon would be a pistol but to each his own. If I had to have a dagger, I'd like a ballistic one. Actually I'd like a pair with extra blades. Given the legal difficulty & expense, it's sort of a long shot, but they would be kick ass. The other dagger (don't hate me) would be a high quality Jagdkommando. A good one is way overpriced but would really be capable of inflicting a serious traumatic wound wherever you stab.

You say that because you've never been in a stack and cleared rooms. Even if you're the number one man and someone did happen to grab you and throw you down you buddies will be in the room in less than two seconds. By the time Mr. bad guy has a chance to even try to stick you or shoot you he's dead. Soldiers prectice room clearing with in all kinds of scenarios until it's ingraned into you. I got out of the Army in 2005 and I could still jump into a stack and be effective, that how much this gets practiced.

Nope, never been there. Know a bunch of guys who have, tho, going back a long way. SEAL's and stuff. My stepson was a SAW gunner for his squad, near Tikrit. I have a clue. I was just being conversational, this ain't about life lessons, or field ops. And I tend to generalize. This is just someone wanting someone else to make a decision for him. He's not getting a lot of help, btw.

Fine, GET the Spartan/George V-42. It's a good knife, and an interesting interpretation of the original. Then get a Boker Applegate/Fairbairn to actually carry and/or use.

Actually he got several good suggestions, the applegate from Boker is ok, the gerber is still a good choice, the spartan is much better and the Busse is a butt kickers dream.
