Recommendation? True combat dagger choice.

I have the Cold Steel, Taïpan in 3V and it's awesome. Very solid feel to it and well worth the price.

I also have the following:
- Les George: (TWO) Galvos Daggers in CTS-XHP, with (TWO) leather sheaths, and (TWO) kydex sheaths.
- RMJ: (TWO) Black Raider Daggers in CPM-3V, each with Kydex sheaths.

They are each very different. I am not sure which will hold an edge longer or be tough for a military deployment.

How are you liking the RMJ Raider? I'd love one of those and there is next to nothing out there in terms of reviews.

They are very heavy duty feeling as well. If any fault is to be found it is that the first grip/handle screw is right at the narrowest part of the tang. I tried to snap the first one over my knee using my hands and could not, so I ordered a second. It's pretty solid. I don't plan on standing on it to see if it can support 200lbs, but I did look at that one point.

RMJ sheaths are out of this world good. I plan to buy two to three more RMJ knives based on what I have so far. Very well made in my opinion.

Many dagger designs really are good only for stabbing . The Taipan (and other similar ) blades are wider and thinner , allowing for improved slashing . Makes for a better fighting knife .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Alternatively, you could go full medieval and get this Cold Steel MAA arming dagger.

Did anyone say... DAGGERS?!?! I love daggers. Recently I was lucky enough to find a Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife as produced by the Egginton group for Commonwealth special forces.

The applegate fairbairn dagger as produced by Boker might be a better option for you. It doesn't have as weak of a tip and you might get it sharp enough for other field use and cutting.

Top pic , 2nd from right end side looks like a shorty Roman Gladius . I guess that could be a dagger . Nice collection !:thumbsup::thumbsup:

The Eickhorn Solingen "Recon Force" is definitely worth a look......if you can get "Recon Force" off the blade :)

This thread raises an interesting point for me. I’m based in the UK, in London, and I’m going to add a big disclaimer to this message in order to help out the mods, please read and take note. I am discussing daggers and knife collecting, that is all:

Please do not offer political responses to this post, it is absolutely wrong here. The discussion is about knives, specifically daggers.

Ahem.

To my great delight, my brother told me the other day that he had bought me a F/S dagger with “a very nice sheath”. I haven’t seen it yet, but will of course be picking the hive brain as to provenance and origin. He got it at auction, who knows?!

That being said, it will be the only dagger I own, as they are a killing tool. My hammer is a tool that can kill, but it isn’t designed for that purpose. My country is what it is.

The law does not forbid me from owning a dagger, but how the police here view such a thing will relate to its ownership: display cabinet; locked safe; lying about; by the front door; etc. They will decide if it is a collector’s item or if it is an offensive weapon. Anyway.

Hope he’s got me a decent one! ;)
