True North Knives ... Top Notch

I should probably keep quiet here, but what the heck... it's another perspective, right?:o

Full disclosure:
I've known and done business with Neil for almost 10 years. Sometimes I even do exclusive variations for TNK, not because I have to ... (I could sell the same knives to people on my waiting lists and avoid the commission(s).) I do these projects because, in my experience, Neil has always been a stand-up guy of the highest order with a big universe of happy, loyal customers that otherwise might not have ready access to my knives.

I'm sorry to hear someone report unhappy results.

Of course, reporting bad results is totally legit, but is it cool to stalk a feedback forum to bring down any positive reports that pop up (if that's what's going on (?)).
Why not report your bad results with a thread dedicated to your experience and leave it at that?
Repeatedly injecting a bad experience into other people's positive reports seems kinda like a weird vendetta, no?:(

I don't think people who have had bad experiences and are commenting in good faith should be censored.
Nobody is perfect.
But I have to say that I have dealt with Neil/TNK for years and have only had positive experiences, and would not hesitate to buy from him again.

Thanks for the below post, many makers don't come forward, and why should they. It's guys busting in and Living in the GBU that cause Top Notch Makers to AVOID THIS SITE. How many more Mfg., Makers, or service providers is Bladeforums going to lose before someone stops the bashing. GBU has turned into a version of other sub forums reserved for Adult Entertainment within Bladeforums. We have lost Mfg's, Makers, Providers, who actually make Bladeforums worth the money. As for Neil, at TNK, he is and always has been a businessman with A+ ratings. I thought posting other forums, including youtube rants was against forum rules ? If you have exact details, post them here. Otherwise how are you helping the rest of us make good decisions. That is the purpose of GBU, to educate and protect members here. Somehow these constant haters have ran off the usual guys who always did fix the real problems. Great point below, got a problem, create a thread. Otherwise let those who are praising continue to do so. The op posted the GOOD. If you disagree, start a BAD or Ugly thread.

I agree sir, but certain members never post a thread of Ugly or Bad, but interfere in every good thread. If the member has a problem, he should start his thread telling his story, BUT it would get picked apart, and they don't want that. I don't see why arguing every positive post is necessary ? The OP simply posted his/her opinion. Thanks and respect rb

I agree completely. That said, the guy who bumped this old thread has not explained his experience with the business in question. He posted here only after an interaction with Neil in another thread that was closed because they got in a word fight.

Does knife117 have any actual feedback of his own about the business in question? If so, let's hear it. Otherwise, hurt feelings on the internet and other people's youtube comments don't count as feedback.

As far as peanut gallery type antics are concerned, there will be some changes implemented in the way the GBU is currently running. The dog piling will be coming to an abrupt end, opinions are always welcomed and will not be censored, but we need to ask ourselves what is an opinion actually worth when it is posted and absolutely nothing to do with the topic being discussed? At any rate, there is a change coming soon.

I am sad with how this thread and sub-forum continues to degenerate. It would seem that many folks here have "sacred cows," and become extremely defensive when anyone has a poor experience with one of their favorite dealer and posts about it.

Knife117 did have an interaction with Neil. It was public and in another thread in this forum. Neil made the thread about TNK and showed how he acts towards those with whom he disagrees. IMHO it is appropriate for knife117 to post about that as general feedback on how TNK operates. It is the other side of the coin to the praise that others have for TNK. All of the abuse and juvenile banter that is being directed towards those that don't like TNK is, IMHO, totally inappropriate.

I spent a few years managing the Customer Service team of a large business totally unrelated to knives. With that in mind, I appreciate the value that this forum has for encouraging good behaviors by vendors, customers and forum members that trade with each other. It has the potential to be a powerful tool, but only if folks remain truthful, objective and respectful. This thread, and a few others, seem to be more about cheering for your favorite vendor or forum member (regardless of their behavior) AND being rude to those with whom you disagree. When that happens, the value of this sub-forum becomes little more then Jerry Springer style entertainment.

I'm pretty sure any comments about the business owner and his treatment of customers count as feedback. I'm just sharing those comments with others after my unpleasant experience with him on my flashlight thread. I'm looking out for my fellow knife lovers. 😊

Because of this thread I decided to check out TNK and he had a knife I was looking for. So I just placed an order for another Strider.

I have not attacked anyone for their opinion nor been a cheering section for as you put it my favorite vendor. I deal with several dealers and only took time to state my very positive experiences with TNK ...

And as I stated I respect everyones right to form their own opinion and if they feel the need to express a bad experience that can also be helpful to prospective buyers.

But so many of these threads now turn into something ugly off point and more personel which I think is counter productive for everyone on the forums.

Neil went above and beyond for me at a time it wasnt easy for him to do and it will not be forgotten.. And I'll proudly tell anyone about MY positive experiences with him ... I've no need to attack anyone that disagrees.

So do you have any first hand experience in a business transaction with Neil and or his company? If so, do explain the problems or positives that arose during your business with TNK.

Again, he has no experience with TNK other than a hissy fit here in GB&U. He is using youtube comments as evidence because he got his feelings hurt in a thread he started about another company with who he had a transaction with that was not knife related and did not happen here. If folks want to look up said hissy fit, it is there, have at it. Instead of letting it stand for what it is Knife117 crapped on someone else's positive thread by posting a cryptic message and youtube link. Why not start your own thread on the topic?

Would you say that perhaps you are having a hissy fit over some comments that show that TNK is not all "ponies and rainbows" like some people claim it to be?

That is a very skewed way of looking at it. Again, in that thread Neil was extremely abrasive towards knife117 and said that because of what he had heard about knife117's behavior he was banned from trading at TNK. IMHO, that is a professional interaction. The YouTube link is debatable, but I would say let it is the other side of the coin for all the praise that TNK gets. I think people can make up their own minds regarding what they want to believe.

Edit to add - I'm done here. This is not an argument I really want to have and I am not interested in being perceived as a knife117 supporter / TNK detractor. This discussion is about the GB&U rules, and I have had ZERO professional interaction with TNK / Neil.

I placed an order last Thursday night from TNK and Neil sent an email the next morning saying he was sending the knife with free overnight shipping. I got the Strider this morning and he even threw in some cool free stuff. Neil went way beyond great customer service on this. He will definitely get continued business from me.

Congrats on the new Strider. That's the kind of experiences I've had with TNK and Neil and the reason I made the original post. He earned my repeat business with each and every transaction I've made with him.

Figured I'd show the SJ75 and the free case he threw in.
