Hello friends,

Besides folders like Case, SAK, Opinel etc. if it doesn't have a flipper, redesign that doo-doo!

Two FACTS that make flippers great.
1. Most efficient way mechanically to deploy the blade. Pull of a finger tip as opposed to push of the thumb.
2. When deployed the flipper acts as a guard.

These are facts and are not debatable.

I only buy folders with flippers, anything without it (besides above) is lacking.

Cool story bro!

Sorry for my bad English.

What if you don't have an index finger?

(edit to add)
Nevermind... I just tried a flipper using my middle finger and it still works.

What if you do not like flippers. I despise them.
What if you like using your thumb. I do!

Your welcome to your opinion of course. But it sucks none-the-less.
Just like flippers suck.

YMMV

It's because you were using a knife without a flipper in the first place! :D

And yea I have a hard time getting any other knife because my 0561 is so great. The flipper on this thing is perfect.

So you're still missing the added benefit of the flipper turned guard...

let me guess you hate guards...the horror!

I'm not intending on stabbing anyone anytime soon, so do not see the need for such things. I carry two Spyderco Military's daily, one a lefty the other a righty. Neither has a guard or a flipper. Neither needs either one. I don't intend to be carrying anything else anytime soon.

No use for flippers, PERIOD.

I have several automatics that don't have flippers?
A few of my balisong knives are without flippers?

Some knives have holes, those are a great design.
Totally disagree with a flipper being most efficient. If I were concerned about fast deployment, I would take an Emerson wave over a flipper.

The OP has a love affair with flipper. A knife just ain't a knife without one. He fails to realize he is not the only one living on planet earth. His opinion does not matter to me one little bitty bit.

Oh yeah, none of my fixed blades don't have flippers either. ;-)

I don't like flippers but you don't see me creating threads bashing them. Real knife people know what they like, what they don't, and respect the difference.

never held a flipper that I liked enough to use.

it's the thumb that really helped us out evolutionarily, and just like we are now top of the food chain with our thumbs, the thumb hole on a blade is at the top of the food chain for knives.

lesser creatures use their fingers, I'll use my thumb.

I'm pretty meh on flippers. They seem to get in the way of things more than they are useful. Since I use my knives to cut - and pretty much never to stab - the flipper design actually makes a knife less useful when cutting on a flat surface, as the flipper prevents the use of anything but about an inch of edge near the tip.

For me I am much more comfortable using a thumb hole or stud. Additionally, as a lefty, there really aren't any options if I were interested anyways.

I agree with what's been said before, sure I like my dolphin appendages, but I'm not one to bash on other opening systems.

I got to thinking though... Wouldn't a balisong really be the original flipper?

Flipper don't really do it for me, I also don't flick my knives out any more since I bought my sebenza, I did have a cryo, was fun to flip out but like I said "did"

As a red blooded American and US NAVY Veteran, I like my "things" to have the most features...flippers inherently have the most features.

Come at me, bro!
