True Upgrade for Omega Spring

I just kinda doubt it's a unique problem with these knives
clearly this is a big problem for you, and now reporting 2 separate knives with the same problem, and all the spring swaps you have done... Was the other one a Bugout? The multiples of failures in your experience makes me wonder if you accidentally bought clones? It would be so interesting to see what knid of service another make using a bar lock would give you. Hogue Ritter maybe.

The Hogue springs seem a bit stronger. Could they be swapped in?
(Truthfully: I've never had my Deka apart...)

Well I know a lot of people break omega springs, just not all of them post about it. I could report it all to Benchmade but I have technically modded them (new scales) so it would all be my fault in their eyes.
I know they're not clones, purchased through bladehq and perfect quality.
I just kinda doubt Hogue springs are gonna be that different from Pacific Sons or my own, both of which were thicker and stiffer.

Wolff has been doing high quality springs and kits for decades. At this point: could it hurt to give them a try also?

I might. I've heard reports of Hogue omega springs breaking too though.
My next step is to try to make some flat-wire springs. Being something completely different, I have higher hopes. But if those break, Wolff omega springs may be the last hope for mankind!

The springs design is not why they are breaking, the Ritter's use of redundant Omega springs on a bar lock and millions of copies in use without failure for a couple decades or so, prove that to my mind. Everything breaks, and engineered springs break sometimes, that is why there are 2 in this application. I am thankful for your report, it is specific and clearly written by a gearhead, good stuff. I think your multiple spring failures point to problems more central then fidgeting the lock, as much fun as that is. Whatever the problem/s are, omega spring design is not a problem but producing them could be....
I pledge 10 bucks to buy Þ Þráinn Njálsson a Hogue Ritter mini RSK or Decka, to see what kind service he gets. All we need is 14 MORE PLEDGES TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN. Maybe a moderator could round up pledges and get one of them shipped?

Well I appreciate that! Haha maybe I'll finish my quest someday, but I was just putting my experiences out there so others could learn from it, no need for anything else!

Good morning all,I have owned axis lock knives for years and I always fidget.
I have never broken an omega spring.
My only observation on this and other omega spring threads is that if there wasn't any real breakage issues, it seems to me that there would be no secondary market for springs at all.
Just my thoughts
Have a great fidgety day flicking your axis locks

Serious question. Where in the spring are they breaking? If you are making your own, do they have identical bends to the originals? Have not broken one on my Griptillian yet.

Where in the spring are they breaking?
Reports I have seen pics of and read about, are in the middle of omega loop. I remember one set of pics where springs were clearly rubbing on the G10, G10 was hollowed out a bit more and never heard another report from that owner.

I'm new here but Im a certified Glock and AR15 armorer and I will agree that the Wolff springs are a great upgrade for guns, I use them in my 1911's and AR's to tune them for ammo and reliability. You might try them before you go to the work of making another set, they make excellent parts.

I just got a new CLA so I'm interested in this myself. Not sure what size it is but I don't want to send it back to them.

The Manix can be a real bear to take apart; but it CAN be tuned.
I like their ball bearing lock a whole bunch!

It's not Benchmade springs are not good. It's the hassle of shipping the knife to BM just for replacing the spring and the waiting.

One Omega spring of my 535-3 broke recently. I ordered some from the bay. Will see how they hold.
It's crazy you said the 535-3 had an omega spring break. So I bought my 535-3 when they first dropped I think in 2020 maybe it was early 21? Anyways within the first minth or less I had one break on me. I was very disappointed as I just spent $270 on a knife and I was new to paying that much for a pocket knife. I sent it in and they warranty it but of course I had to pay the shipping to them I think they shipped it back free. Which the knife wasn't even 30 days old yet and 8 hadn't used it much at all. I played with it or fidgeted with it to get it broken in and "smooth" as they say. Lol. But I'm not even joking when I say after I got it back.. less than 2 weeks went by before the omega spring broke again. Now I can't remember if it was the one they replaced or if it was the other one because after that happened I put the knife back in the box in it's little Benchmade cloth sheath they come with and it's sat like that ever since. I meant to ship it back to have it fixed again but I thought well maybe there is some aftermarket springs that are better. I've just never fixed or sent it back since. It really bothered me I paid that much for a knife and it broke twice in less than 60 days. With very and I mean VERY light use. I bought a Pro-Tech Malibu and a ZT0562Ti and have been very happy with both. I have a babied Pro-Tech Operator Edition Rockeye Auto that Is a safe queen. Lol. But yea.. that's been my only experience with Benchmade and it wasn't good. And I hate it because I love the dang knife. Carbon fiber scales and its so dang light and so dang strong for how light it is.. it's really a shame. 😔

The possibility of an Omega spring breaking is the heartbreaking thing about Benchmade, I'm sorry to say. I love my Benchmades and never had a spring break but the possibility of it alone prevents me from putting 100% confidence in my Axis Lock knives. I would be better off if I didn't even know about it.

This has always been my issue as well. I have never experienced a spring breaking but, I always carry spares with me just in case. This has been the reason I have parted with benchmades I have owned in the past. I always end up buying them again and then this gets into my head and I sell them. It’s weird. I can’t explain.
