Try this with your Sebenza...

I've seen quite a few people try and tie the pig tail(hangmans)knot on their knives and fail. The general misconception seems to be that you have to start the wrap closest to the knife as possable in order to get it tight. This is not so; you can use a foot and a half of cord and really start your wrap far from the knife or in the middle of the cord. To determine how many twists or how long you want the tail, depends on how long you make the first reverse loop. I give it about a inch and half to two inchs. You will loose some slack when tightening. Also when closing or putting the end through the back loop, the twists don't have to come as close as possable to the end to make it tight. You can leave some extra room to make it easy to put the end through and just slide the twists up till tight. After tightening pull the opposite side end and slide the twist towards the knife. That simple! I hope my Pig-tail/Hangmans knot tieing mambo-baha-jambo lesson can help some.

Jackyl; you are not crazy. 'Crazy' in the vernacular means a person with a thought disorder, such as a paranoid schizophrenic.
You have a personality disorder; namely OCD, or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. A severe case of it. Fortunately there are drugs to help you. Seek help.

Seriously, first of all, ALL MD's (such as me) are obsessive compulsive to a degree; they told us that in med school. It is simple; if you are not OC to a degree, you can't study hard enough to get into med school. So, I am not one to call anyone names.

Secondly, I detail strip all my firearms before use. Further, I degrease them with 1,1,1 trichloroethane (Gun Scrubber), then lube with a variety of high tech snake oils. So, I approach mechanical contraptions much the same way as do you. I am kidding you about OCD.

Finally, I have a confession. I took a Seb apart for the first time the other day. I degreased it, then lubed it, and put it back together. The sucker would NOT open; the last part of opening was extremely hard. However, if you pushed the lock bar out of the way, the blade would extend completely and freely. So, I took it apart again and put it back together. Same result.

Then I read your post. Took the sucker apart for the third time, discovered that one of the washers had been slightly displaced when I put the knife back together. Following your instructions, I reassembled. It now works flawlessly. Thanks for saving my butt.

I hope that you realize I am joking about OCD, and are not offended. One thing I would add to your instructions is that the blade is SHARP, and extreme care in handling it is warranted.

Incidentally, if you want to see a funny movie about a person with OCD, try 'As Good As It Gets.' Funny movie.

Thanks again for the excellent instructions.

As many times as you said you were joking, I figured you to be an OC.

Just kidding. Thank you for the kind words...I am, in fact, OC when it comes to my knives.

If you have first hand experience with breaking down the Rem 870 Express Mag., shoot me an email.

I have another confession to make; I have an 870 Rem, and haven't taken it down except to field strip it for cleaning. If YOU run across any good data on detail stripping, let ME know, OK.

Thanks again for saving my butt on reassembling my Seb. I wouldn't have wanted my good reputation ruined!!
