hey guys....tryin to decide on a new edc.....i have a few knives now but i'll let u know what i'm loking for....relatively small blade....vg-10 steel or something good-no s30v....i'm not a fan of it......doesn't matter what kind of lock.....i want a THIN blade.....i'm lokin at the

spyderco dragonfly-vg-10

spyderco calypso jr-vg-10

possibly the benchmade mini-grip

anybody have any of these...i'm lookin for a real thin cutter i can edc that ain't gigantic...please include any other suggestions....i'm lookin in the 60 dollar range.....ryan

I have the stainless Dragonfly Vg 10, I think it's a good knife. Hair shaving sharp, good quality. I wanted the etched one but they didn't have it.
I also have a boker sub com, only AUS 8 but small thin blade also razor sharp. The only thing I don't like is the handle is metal plate on one side of the and the other is plastic or zytel.

i am really leaning towars the dragonfly....i like the small size and the vg-10...how thin is the blade....does it have a thin egde...i could always thin it some but i'd rather not do alot of work...ryan

Yeah it's thin, but not thin enough that it feels like it will break.Blade is 2.5mm at back of blade and thinner on cutting edge. You can't go wrong with that knife.

i wonder how the dragonfly compares to the calypso jr....i think they're in the same price range....or at least close....ryan

The Dragonfly is a great little cutter out of the box, the edge is thin, and it cuts well, although it is a small knife, it fills the hand and cuts like a much larger one, it is also really easy to sharpen, with a very slight, constant curve in the blade

of course if you really want to go nuts and thin it out, you can :)
here is my EDC dragonfly, all custom work done by me, taking about 3 hours for the pattern on the handle, and maybe three hours of rebeveling/convexing, and another 3 hours of polishing it all.
lives in a kydex neck rig, cuts like a demon on speed, and gets touched up with a quick strop every now and then

looks great....thanks for the pics....i actually am thinking about a calypso jr in zdp189....a friend is selling one for a good price....it's in my budget....ryan

echo-have u used a calypso jr also?....if so how would the two compare....i probably shoulda put this in the spyderco forum....i'm open to other brands os i thought i'd put it here....ryan

Don't forget the trusty ol' Opinels. They're outstanding slicers. There's also the Spyderco Centofante 3 or 4.

Caly's are one of Spyderco's best knives IMHO. I have a CF ZDP-189 Caly III and love it!

nope, i havent, i do have a full sized calypso that is a safe queen, but no caly Jr
so i cant comment on what they are like

The Mini Grip 555HGs are, IMO, some of the most perfectly thin grinds I've ever seen. I'm sure the Caly is thin, but those 555HGs are niiiiiiiiice... especially if you like really thin grinds.

I used to EDC a calypso with ZDP 189, but EDC now is Kershaw leek with D2 composite ($65.00).
Stainless steel Opinel is the best for slicing apples and filleting oranges. Favorite opinel is a bubinga handled folding fillet knife. Also carry a ebony handled Marjacq in my computer satchel.

Go to aeromedics.com and check out the Ritter griptillian by Benchmade, They also have it as a mini. It is exclusive to them so you can't get it elsewhere but it is a great EDC knife. And the Axis lock is really smooth and strong.

The dragonfly is great as well as the Spyderco Cricket. Personally I carry an out of production FRN handled Cricket and a Delica often. You might want to consider the VG-10 or for just a little more money the ZDP Delica. You can find good deals out there.

i've been thinking about that one but i think it's like a hundred...out of my budget at the moment but i've seen em in person....sweet little knife....ryan

i had a zdp delica....that's what i just sold...way too thick for me....i think i'm gonna go with a zdp calypso jr.....ryan:thumbup:

Hard to go past the Calypso Jr.
I have a grey FRN VG10 model and it finds more pocket time than any other knife that I own.
Light weight, very thin edge, easy to sharpen, slices like a demon and fits my hand like it was custom made for me.

I have a Ritter Mini Grip, and although this has some great features and is a very sturdy well put together knife with an Axis lock, S30v, and a wider blade - given the choice for an everyday user, the Calypso Jr would be my pick.
