Trying to get the most out of my steel off cuts.

I'm Jason HM Ward. My pronouns are go/fuck/yourself. That's who I think I am but it may change by next week.

Enjoy the response cockface 👆
Oh wow. We gots a lively one gents! Do I look like someone who does pronouns? 🤮 But shit I can smell the ego all the way down here in Atlanta! How is what you are doing... Helping people out exactly or is my brain just also not smart enough there?

Now back to our regular scheduled programing. I like to take the small 3" to 4" cut offs and make heavy shop/utility blades out of them and I have them heat treated right along side the blades I made out of the same piece of steel. When the blade wears down to the point it's no longer useful I just heat it up with a blow torch pull it out and glue another blade back into the handle. This one is a 3/16" piece of CPM 154 that's getting a little past its prime.

Open new topic with access just for both of them .So they can prolong the discussion as much as they want 🤣 Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde 😀
I think we heard enough of his nonsense for now.

I really enjoy designing knives from random scraps of steel, and never can bring myself to throw any of my scraps out even lil tiny pieces. Just put em in a bag and write the steel type on there and into the drawer it goes. Maybe one day I'll make little engraving chisels or something else weird.

On the other topic here, I have a folder project on my bench which I'll be starting on over the next couple of weeks. I have a decent drill press, a 2x72 a portaband and I'm pretty sure I can do it. So, I think you could, too- without a mill. That chunk of 10V is a good size for a folding knife type thing, and you already have it. Just pick up a bit of ti for your liners, get some ready made hardware, some reamers and go to town! A great challenge:thumbsup:

I've been considering this actually. I have a drill press, and some other tools that could help.

I'm still trying to find resources on making folding knives. I've read some of the old posts here about it, but haven't found any that are super useful. Except that making a cardboard template to help in designing could be useful.

I also have a bag of little scraps. But I didnt have enough foresight to label them by the steel lol. So I guess I'll just run the ht for what I think it is, and hope it works if I end up using them. It would just be for little stuff I end up making for myself, so it doesn't really matter.

I have a couple of designs that I came up with just to be able to make another knife from the left overs. This is the one I use the most. a lil slim guy I call the Cowboy Toothpick:
