Trying to love a peanut

Hello, I'm a latecomer to the peanut party. Recently, I stumbled across a used one on eBay for a price I couldn't pass up. For the last couple of weeks it's replaced my usual Case pen knife. I've tried to love it but I keep coming to the conclusion that I'd really like a little more knife to hang on to. It's great for what it is, but I'm afraid it's not for me. Now if Case would offer a pen knife in Chestnut bone with CV blades....

They are a great little knife, but not for everybody.
I tried to like it too but ran into a few situations where a larger knife would be more handy.
I still think it's a great little coin pocket knife with a larger blade to back it up when needed.

So far the peanut has proven to be as much as I'd need for most stuff size wise and I love it just fine, but I do agree an extra 3/8-1/2" on say a half whittler or the pen adds just a bit more capability if you need it.
If you find yourself needing more the peanut isn't for you, but that's okay because there's lots of options.

The case half Whittler is more more style too. But to be honest I have anywhere from 2-4 slipjoints on my persons at any given time.....the peanut rides in my shirt pocket and it's what I reach for when a knife is needed.

I rarely need anything more.

Big fan of the pen knife here. I too wanted to like the peanut, but it was just too small.
Half-stops and a stout pull resulted in more cuts than I'd like, but most importantly the knife always came up missing! Never stayed in my pockets.
The pen knife has enough extra length to grab onto and the lack of half-stops makes it easier to handle, to me anyway. I agree, I wish Case would offer more cover options for that great pen knife.

That Peanut was biting you and trying to escape. What on earth did you do to get it so upset?

There are three or four on my shelf, and when I carry one, it is usually all the knife I need, but I carry knives as much for fun as for need. For a while, now, my fun has been coming from an Opinel 6, Okapi Biltong and Alox Electrician, way more knives than I need.

Just for the fun of it, I’ll mix it up a little. A peanut, Improved Muskrat, or mayba a Forum knife.

I like the pen knife a lot too. A little more handle to hang on too and even thinner in the pocket. Its a good alternative to the peanut. Another one that you might like is the Case medium jack 22087. The blades are a little thicker than the pen knife, so a little heavier duty. Unfortunately its not available in CV steel. Its a nice sized knife.

I suppose it wasn't too happy about sharing pocket space with another knife. I believe it was jacknife that compared them to a chihuahuas, and perhaps he was right about that

100% prefer the Penknife, the Peanut is small, fiddly and snappy :D Those half-stops on such a small knife seem out of place. It has its devotees and they enjoy it but I don't;)

Totally agree on the half stops!

The stiff springs combined with he strong half stops make it an impossible knife for an arthritic old fart to use. I've found that even at 78 years of age, I cans till handle the Victoinox executive, Buck companion, Boker 240 pen knife, and even the Case mini copperhead with easy. But the snappy half stops are dangerous to me. If Case dropped the half stops, I'd be back with a peanut in a heart beat. For now, I just have to carry and us those 'other' pocket knives outside The Cult.

my sentiments exactly ... I've had alot of peanuts over the years - I just can't get into carrying them frequently. I still have a couple and carry them from time to time for a change of pace, but they're not for me either (I do like the half stop though - thats rarely seen in a small knife)

I'm also a little more leery of handling the 'snappy' li'l Peanut nowadays. Between the small handle, half stop, strong springs and a shallow nail nick, there are lots of ways to lose control when opening or closing. And more so now, for me, as I'm noticing I'm occasionally a little more fumble-fingered as I'm getting older. My fingertip grip strength isn't quite what it used to be, so sometimes things tend to get away from me. I watched my Dad struggle to a greater degree with the same issues, as he aged. So, it's a bit of an omen for me now.

I've wanted to like carrying & using the Peanut more often. And sometimes I'll drop one in my pocket just on principle, to give it another chance for a day. But I don't do that so often anymore.

If you’re not going to carry the Peanut, but still keeping it, how about putting it in a location where you may be inclined to reach for it occasionally? Such as desk drawer, car console, bag/backpack, office, kitchen, medicine cabinet, tackle box, end table.. .. ..

I love the pen knife. I love the peanut, too. If I was stuck with only one for the rest of my life, I’d probably take the extra length of the pen knife. I’m glad I don’t have to make that choice at this point in my life.

This is what I do. The peanut, though not carried, is always handy. I keep it in my bedside table. I used to keep it out and more accessible but She Who Must Be Obeyed kept "tidying up". I succumbed lest it be lost and filed away wherever she puts all those things...

It is my favourite for digging out splinters, trimming a hang nail, or maybe doing some mending on my work pants.

Off topic Carl...well sorta...but you should look into fasting to help with the arthritis flares. I've been playing around with a fasting diet and it has helped clear up my psoriasis issues which include psoriatic arthritis, gout, as well as dropping some weight. Not sure if it would help you or get you back into a Peanut but it has definitely helped me feel better all around. By the way I'm dislike half stops as well. Victorinox I've noticed, on say a Pioneer or Waiter has what I like to call a half PAUSE. Almost like it slows down a bit mid way rather than crashing shut at full freaking speed.
