Trying to love a peanut

I love Peanuts, but I never just carry one knife. I always have a medium sized pocket knife for larger tasks. But lately I’ve been eyeing the Pen Knife, I figured they could both ride in my coin pocket with know problem. I wish Case would come out with more options for the Pen, but for now I think I’ll start with a yellow one.

Off topic Carl...well sorta...but you should look into fasting to help with the arthritis flares. I've been playing around with a fasting diet and it has helped clear up my psoriasis issues which include psoriatic arthritis, gout, as well as dropping some weight. Not sure if it would help you or get you back into a Peanut but it has definitely helped me feel better all around. By the way I'm dislike half stops as well. Victorinox I've noticed, on say a Pioneer or Waiter has what I like to call a half PAUSE. Almost like it slows down a bit mid way rather than crashing shut at full freaking speed.

The doc's down at the VA have had me on a diet to get my blood sugar down. It was up to 6.2, and that was over the window of 6 for pre-diabetic. Dropped all sugar, no sodas, very little carbs, excersise, and my sugar went down to 5.7 and I dropped ten pounds. Cut way back on the booze as well as it drives up the sugar like candy.

They did x-rays of my hands, and its defiantly osteoarthritis. Bad wear in both he base joints of the thumbs and some other fingers. So now I shoot mostly .22 handguns, with a little .380 now and then.

Victorinox is made for old farts with arthritis. So smooth operating that its no pain at all to deal with them. SAK's defiantly rule as an old farts pocket knife.

I felt the same way as the OP until I actually bought a Peanut and carried it. Now it is the most used knife I carry on my person. (I generally carry 3-4 knives everyday)

I took the Peanut and put in in the change pocket of my jeans. It gets used almost every day.
Try that, you will see what I mean.:)

 Keep on with the diet. Back in April my A1c was 7.3. Dropped a lot of carbs. In my case mostly bread and potatoes. I lost 12 pounds by July and my sugar was down to 6.2. Threw some light, but regular exercise in, and now I've lost 20 pounds. I go back in October. Hoping to get my sugar down under 6. The biggest challenge I've had with this is getting enough fiber without the breads/grains. But that's another problem
My Dad used to say getting old wasn't for sissies. Like so many things, he was right :p

I have to get back on my diet and exercise. Between the week at the lake and the psycho-social stressors since, I've been mostly exercising my effervescence-containing muscles, but I still have a month to clean up my blood before my next checkup. It will be our second appointment, and she might feel she knows me well enough to slap me around. (The examination rooms have white noise generators, so no one can hear you scream.)

But peanuts!
I have a case peanut and a few similars. I like them because they're cute, and I use them mostly if I want to go out of my way to appear harmless. But if I perceive a real danger of confiscation, I'll carry a nylon Imperial.

Peanuts are high fat, protein, sugar, difficult to carry that but hard to abstain:D

Thing is, it's a venerable Traditional with a long pedigree and a lot of appeal, can be a kind of PSK I reckon

Hate to hear of the trouble with your hands Carl. Hopefully they get everything under control. I'll still always remember you as the fellow who made the peanut cool.

Far as trying to like the 'nut? Well I'm in the single spring pen knife category myself. I think some of the same rationale applies for carrying either. They are both kind of minimalist in their own way. Besides, I've been carrying the same 66 slim for over 5 years now almost every day. I've gotten so much pocket wear and patina on it that starting over would be almost sacrilegious lol.

Find what you like and carry the heck out of it! :)

It's all good! The Peanut is definitely not for everyone. It is just one of many varieties to choose from.
I have a personal connection to the Peanut because it was one of the first knives I owned and it was given to me by my grandfather. I have a pretty decent collection of Peanuts but never carry them without a bigger knife as well...and nowadays they are often replaced by a Victorinox Classic

Why? If it doesn't work for you, it doesn't work. We're not talking about issued gear, but rather a pocketknife you spend personal funds on. Carry the knife you want.

Anti-Peanut alliance!
Oooh dear, that's funny.:p

I like bigger knives, and am tiring of half stops, and I don't like a pen on the mark side. It surely is an odd little knife!
I enjoy hearing people talk about how much they love their 'nuts, but I always figure I just couldn't, yaknow.

I had better not ever buy a peanut, for fear I end up liking it.

Mine is so pretty even the free range bacon came in for a closer look.

I think AG designed his Peanut to correct all the deficiencies of the Case version. Even upgraded the steel.

Considering the near custom quality and AGR's lifetime warranty, the price is reasonable in my opinion.

OK thanks for the info, I thought it might be a discontinued line. I've long admired @Peregrin 's one and yours looks really excellent, cool hog too:D

There are three or four on my shelf, and when I carry one, it is usually all the knife I need, but I carry knives as much for fun as for need. For a while, now, my fun has been coming from an Opinel 6, Okapi Biltong and Alox Electrician, way more knives than I need.

Just for the fun of it, I’ll mix it up a little. A peanut, Improved Muskrat, or mayba a Forum knife.
I've always wondered what constitute the "improved" part of the improved muskrat? I had an RR version that I was quite fond of that sorta had a sheepsfoot to it. I had Glennbad put scales on it (cost more than the knife I know...lol) and then did a GAW with it sometime back. I thought it was that it had a sheepsfoot vs a second clip but then I see other muskrats with two clips that are also improved muskrats or is it that it has two blades?

The “improvement” is the substitution of the long sheepsfoot for the second, duplicative clip. The two clips are for those occasions when you have 80 or 100 muskrats to skin, and no time to stop to sharpen your blade. I suppose there are other ways you could modify a Muskrat to call it “improved”, but the sheepsfoot does it or me.

Case made a version called the Hawbaker. They are now quite thin on the ground and command some hefty prices.

Mine is from RR in smooth tobacco bone. I have never been tempted to replace the scales. Best $8.00 knife I ever bought.

I couldn't get on with a Case either. nice enough knife but it wrecked my nails

6 months carrying a camillus #21 made me a fully paid up cult member though

Anytime someone posts that they love their peanut, my blood boils, I foam at the mouth, and I send a silent prayer to the knife gods asking them to consign jacknife to the nastiest corner of hell and make him use plastic cafeteria knives for all of his cutting chores. :-)
Seriously, though, I am glad they work for the folks that use them. The smallest I am comfortable with is the small Case jack that someone posted or the Case penknife. I think it is just a case of my hands not being quite as good as when they were much younger and needing a bit more handle to hang on to.
