Turbine Blade

Amazing "ginsu" knife. Will last a lifestyle, I'm sure.

Awed and envious! Well done.👍

Very interesting.

I have a small turbine blade some where - might only make a knife with a couple of inches of blade though.

Only good for hurling mild obscenities at:D

Aside: While in Asia, knew a guy that worked for a major jet engine manufacturer. Company was securing some of its turbine blades from Big Red (China). On one occasion they inspected, signed off on, and shipped a blade to Big Engine Maker.

First thing Big Engine Maker did was put it through QC, starting with a bake in the oven. In time at all, the blade "snapped" in two. Big Engine Maker determined that the blade was not made well and that Big Red Company knew this. Big Red had simply SOLDERED the two pieces back together, sprinkling some metal dust over it, smoothed it out some and shipped.

On another occasion, talking to a Big Red citizen, citizen was happy learning that one of their military jets crashed. When I asked why, he said because now the country had to make a new one --->> more work, more jobs, more money flowing into economy.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone. Hopefully this blade can get some quality choppin' done!

Ronin_Jedi: You could say the turbine was pretty much stuck together with chewing gum. :D

One thing I'm always blabbing about is that titanium comes in many alloys that have a wide range of properties, and that the quality does vary. Titanium alloys are quite sensitive to purity.

Har har!👍

My point was the nerve they had thinking Big Engine Maker would simply accept their QC cert without further testing, and for a high-dollar item like a jet!

Best

Do it, BladeScout! Use the thinnest piece you can cut, and if in doubt, carbidize the thing! :D

It's a craptastic pic...BUT IT'S HERE! This thing is awesome on so many levels, I've dreamt about a sword forged from a turbine blade for years...and Sam made it happen. Thanks so much Sam, I can't wait to get out and chop some stuff!

Hooray! I'm very glad you have a good first impression. CHOP AWAY, and report back!

Very nice, Reminds me of "Edge of Tomorrow". I live near Derby England and the Rolls Royce jet engine factory make their own fan blades in house so no problems with unreliable blade makers.

What's the edge like on that? Does it deform easily or perform pretty much like a hardened steel edge?

Not familiar with "Edge of Tomorrow", so no opinion there. Reminds me of the swords used by the Elves in the Lord of the Rings series.

Not sure what's going to happen to the rest of the blade material. For now I'll just hurl obscenities at it. :D Possibly hatchet heads...

Put me down for one. That convex edge is sick.
