Turn Your Sharp Knife into a RAZOR !!! STROPMAN

But why go straight to the Mods? Why not PM the OP or assume he doesn't know the rules and politely inform him in the thread? Kinda like an adult would do. We were all new here once.

I don't know, when I was new, first thing I did was read the rules. I don't always follow 'em, but I read 'em. Also, see my first post above. I was trying to throw the guy a hint to remind him of those rules (which, iirc are stickied).

Not to be rude but this is getting a little off topic.
I didn't follow the rules.
I tried to fix it.
If you want a really nice strop, google STROP. If you see a link for Stropman, head that way....it'll help keep your knives sharp.

OP, don't worry about it. Live and learn.

I have a stropblock but I seem to get better results using a sharpmaker with uf stones. But that's probably since I haven't honed my skills with a strop yet.

+1. I reported the post; we'll see what happens. (Hello, mods?)

Would have probably been sufficient to link OP to the rules, and him remove the link - but this does seem more like a FEEDBACK thread than General, so it will probably be moved.

The mods aren't paid, so they will get to it whenever they get to it.

Stropman strops are popular, and they are pretty good quality. You can make a strop that's just as good, but I guess that depends on if you want to be the do it yourselfer or get a turnkey strop.

I just use a piece of stirrup leather with polishing compound on it. A strop does make a world of difference and can really refine the edge on your blade.

I was told (via PM) by mods to only report posts and not to try to police people myself--so that's what I did.

+1!

You guys are getting on the kid's case for doing what he (and I) were told to do by the mods. They would rather have a thread sit for as long as it may take for them to address it vs. having multiple users try and explain the rules to other users and clog a thread up like this. Reporting a thread doesn't mean someone murdered someone or is acting like a d-bag...sometimes they're just unaware of the rules and have made an honest mistake.

He could have reported it withought telling everyone also but you make a good point.

If this is the policy, it's a poor one. It detracts from the spirit of cameraderie and sharing that makes for a good forum and instead promotes an unreceptive and hostile atmosphere. Do we want a community of people looking to learn and share, or do we want to empower a gang of tattletale schoolmarms?

I think your "You guys are getting on the kid's case" is misplaced. The IMO it was the OP who got jumped on here.

It's a great strop. I've got the white and green compounds. Lately I've only been finishing with the white compound though.

+1. It's like a feral pack of busybodies around here, always looking to correct somebody whenever possible. If you've ever been told by a mod not to "police" threads, then that may be an indication that you have a tendency to get in other people's business. If we really needed a gang of members scouring the threads looking to critique or make post corrections, I would suggest focusing on spelling and grammar. That is where the real problems lie.

To the OP, no harm, no foul, and strops are the icing on the cake!

No worries, man. You just have to overlook some folks. I have the same opinion as you regarding Stropman's product. I use mine almost every day.

rules are generally for a good reason...well at least "good" rules...wonder which those are???

funny too when you think about this forum as a "knife lovers" forum...manly men right???...I guess so but some obviously have their panties in a bunch...lol

That is true. However, I wanted to prevent multiple people from reporting the same post--the mods already have enough on thier plates.

Right...like that's:

1. Knife related.
2. Wouldn't cause an even bigger flame war.

I think it's you guys with your panties in a bunch. As mods told me, this is a private Forum, they can have whatever rules they want. If following the said rules and obeying moderators of the said private Forum causes this, then I think that it just means that some people need a refresher on the rules.

I, too, felt jumped on when I was new and people reported me for Deal Spotting. How do you think that I got two Deal Spotting Warnings? Maybe I reported myself.

I was told not to "police threads" when I tried to explain to a very new member that a Registered User can't ask for a value.
