Some folks need to take a chill pill; it really isn't that serious, dude. Now the guy will probably hesitate to post because the whole thing blew up. Ridiculous.

Why don't you just get off your high horse and give it a rest already? You've already posted six times in this thread, and you're sounding more and more like a obsequious servile sycophant. Let the MOD's do their thing, if in fact it's necessary, since I have yet to see a MOD chime in and beat down the OP, who already has made more apologies then I ever will in any lifetime, on the forums, or in real life; I don't apologize, ever!

As for the other brain surgeon who wants this thread moved to whine and cheese, I have to ask why...so you can brow beat and insult a new member with impunity?

I was off to whine and cheese, I helped the new member and didn't berate them in any way unlike the petty argument that took over the thread, if you want to sit here and run your head into a wall be my guest, then calling a kid names that you pulled from a dictonary?, and I'm not paid well if I'm a brain surgeon

I hope not, but lately there have been quite a few threads that just degenerate into a pissing match.

This was actually informative. I had not yet heard of this hierarchy.

However based on your username, you and spydercobenchmadekai should really be best buds....

(Just trying to lighten the mood here. :P )

here is Kholberg's heirarchy of moral reasoning: What stage are you at? Also, to the kid's credit (I think/hope your relatively young) he may actually be at a developmentally appropriate level, despite how annoying it may be.

Stage 1 - Obedience and Punishment
The earliest stage of moral development is especially common in young children, but adults are also capable of expressing this type of reasoning. At this stage, children see rules as fixed and absolute. Obeying the rules is important because it is a means to avoid punishment.

Stage 2 - Individualism and Exchange
At this stage of moral development, children account for individual points of view and judge actions based on how they serve individual needs. In the Heinz dilemma, children argued that the best course of action was the choice that best-served Heinz’s needs. Reciprocity is possible at this point in moral development, but only if it serves one's own interests.

Stage 3 - Interpersonal Relationships
Often referred to as the "good boy-good girl" orientation, this stage of moral development is focused on living up to social expectations and roles. There is an emphasis on conformity, being "nice," and consideration of how choices influence relationships.

**(Your current stage, giving benefit of the doubt your not really thinking from stage 1, but is possible)
Stage 4 - Maintaining Social Order
At this stage of moral development, people begin to consider society as a whole when making judgments. The focus is on maintaining law and order by following the rules, doing one’s duty and respecting authority.

Stage 5 - Social Contract and Individual Rights
At this stage, people begin to account for the differing values, opinions and beliefs of other people. Rules of law are important for maintaining a society, but members of the society should agree upon these standards.

**(where we want you to get)Stage 6 - Universal Principles
Kohlberg’s final level of moral reasoning is based upon universal ethical principles and abstract reasoning. At this stage, people follow these internalized principles of justice, even if they conflict with laws and rules.

Guys, everyone participates here on a case by case basis. SpydercoBenchmadeKid is young, he doesn't have the finesse someone who is older might have, so the mods asked him to leave the rules and enforcement to them after a few people didn't take kindly to his help. If you can PM people or post and not come off like a prick, and it doesn't derail a thread or alienate the potential new member, more power to you. They asked him to do something, he is complying, it isn't anybody's place to give him crap over it.

I doubt the people saying "why not PM him" have the proper attitude to not get told off after sending a PM like that, because instigating discourse about the rules in a thread about strops is exactly the kind of stuff that makes people think you're either a kid, a troll, or have some sort of inferiority complex. There are 2 types of forum rules: general rules like don't steal or be a prick, and the more specific rules regarding what constitutes spam or advertising. BF has adopted some specific rules as part of their business model, and it's hard for another member to relate those rules without sounding like a Dbag or stoolie; that's why forums have mods, so threads don't go from being about strops to an argument about the rules.

I have a stropman, works fairly well.

Ran out of the compound crayons though.

You ran out? well I guess if I was using knives for a living I would too. Well you already know about the fancy compounds, Id like to try some of those. The 'crayons' have been sufficient though so I wont be getting any till I run out which by then Ill prob need a new strop hehe.

1. Discussions about sharpening should go in Maintenance, Tinkering & Embellishment.
2. Discussions about the rules should go in Tech Support.
3. Discussions about each other might fit in Whine & Cheese.
This thread serves little purpose other then to annoy each other.

Moderators aren't always consistent for a number of reasons. It can depend on how tired we are, which forum the discussion is in, or the actual member level of someone who hasn't updated to his paid level.

Sometimes moderators don't even know a particular discussion is taking place. There aren't enough of us to cover every thread every hour of every day.

This thread is ... closed.
