Tweenahs - New Pictures, specs...

Let's find something way less weird and unpleasant to chat about.

For instance, I drew a cartoon of a doctor taking advantage of my coworker from the backside while he was under anesthetic, then texted it to him just as he was heading into surgery. I hope it comforted him as they doped him up :D

Tweener-related: anyone else look at the new handles and wonder if the little 'horns' near the lanyard hole could be a potential point of failure? That's getting kinda thin there.

I don't think they'll be an issue. With a knife this size, I'm not planning on using it as a hammer anytime soon. Besides, the base doesn't come to a right angle with the ground, so it would be harder to use the knife like that anyway.

good, keeping it on topic. course, in a few weeks, i'm just going to restart the thread but with "official tweenah" content. keeping it authentic, yo.

the "horns"? maybe. for now it's just FUD. if they break, they're guaranteed. if it's a huge problem, they'll fix it. this isn't the health care system now innit?

carry on! :)

I can't really think of a situation where they would be put under enough stress to bust off or crack? Did you have a specific situation in mind? Just curious

i was just looking at a certain website, guess what they're listing?

guess!

no reallyz :)

I just googled BK16, and ran into a thread over at jungletraining.com with a some info I hadn't realized yet. Moose posted there and mentioned a different thickness than we were told here. That is quite interesting...

Here's a link to the post mentioned above. I almost posted about the thickness being .188(?) just a couple of days ago. Seemed way too thick to me for the "philosophy of use" (credit: nutnfancy) being advertised for the Tweeners. Moose's post was just a few days ago and seemed clear-cut that the stat is now .165. COOL!!! is all I can say. I was having a hard time figuring out why I needed a relatively small knife that's just as thick as a modern BK-9.

BTW, for anyone as anal about such things as I am, .165" works out to 1/7". .188" actually works out to 3/14" (as opposed to 3/16, which would be .1875 in decimal terms), so if I'm doing my math right, the difference between the two blade thicknesses is 1/14". Not huge, I know, but it still makes more sense to me and makes me more excited about getting at least two of 'em, maybe all three.

I realize this is a Tweener-specific thread, but weren't the new Brute and Machax supposed to be released about the same time as the Tweeners? Is that still on schedule? I haven't noticed any chatter about them, but I may have missed it because I haven't been around much lately.

0.165" definitely works. There's no reason for knives of this size class to have 0.25" thick blades. Thickness isn't everything. Good steel, good proportional geometry, and good heat treatment are far more important.

Folks abuse the dickens out of their machetes. It's rare to see a machete with a blade more than about 1/10" thick.

And the one of these I'm most interested in, the BK-15, is basically a modern Roach Belly knife. Historical examples had thin blades, rarely more than 1/16" thick. And they did their job just fine.

Yep, I'm excited about them, and while the thinner stock made me step back a minute and think about it, it should be more than sufficient.

.25 would have been WAY overkill, and I guess having a 4in knife with the same thickness as a BK9 doesn't make much sense either. So the .165in should be just fine :).

i have of course, updated the specs with the new mystery number ;)

until we (*I*) have final production models in hand with the ole calipers, it's just vaporware and speculation :>

nobody tells me nothing it seems, even when i ask directly, because hey, they're not ready yet. i can appreciate that.

some short weeks to go :D

Machax - supposedly ready to go for 2012 Shot Show...

Brute? last i heard? at least a year (or two) out. will be American made, and has a redesign coming, so the delay

Patrol Machete? last i heard? at least a year (or two) out. will be American made, and has a redesign coming, so the delay

Brute? last i heard? possibly. probably, but there's no hurry.

Folders? KaBar will NOT be making a BK folder anytime soon.

Mystery Knife of Mystery? coming along according to the 'vine

other news? coming along, so i heard

water bottles? got me!

other swag? who knows! not me!

If you give me a knife with an exposed tang at the butt, I'm going to hammer on it or hammer with it. And occasionally I'm going to miss the butt and hit the scales. In this case, I worry that one of those little horns would just crack off.

I'm pretty sure I posted it here first, when I got to hold the first round of production proto's. E brought 4 blades to the table at lunch, .188 Flat grind, .188 Hollow grind, .165 Hollow grind, and .165 Flat grind.

The .165 Flat grind won out, but I want one of those .188 Flats. I'm holding out for Toooj to give the Christmas Hookup on one of them bad boys. I like thick knives, and I would have loved to have a knife that size, in that thickness.

.165 is just a little over an 5/32th, and that includes the coating. I'm thinkin' these are gonna be just right, more just about every chore, for everyone. Becker Universal Knives, would be a good title to have. :D

someone is still going to whine they aren't 0.25 or more ;)

such a person will get the usual coyote stare of indifference :>

can't wait. they're going to bad like honey badgers. bad ass.

i would guess that if virtuovice likes the eskabar for deer processing so much, he'll like the tweeners more. longer handles. more curves. sweet.
