"Tweener" & Big Bro WIP

Ryan I think that would look sweet in some San Mai ;), maybe WI clad Cru Forge V core just saying. I like either version maybe version 1 leading by a hair.

I really like the flow of these and your handle construction excellent and unique.

Ryan,

I've been noticing that you consistently put out blade of impeccable craftsmanship. Your fit and finish are spot on every time as well. This blade is no different. Keep up the great work,

Bobby

I have a hard time deciding which shoulder you are standing on? I am guessing you have a little Pitchfork and red outfit on, Send me what you got:D! I think Version 1 is the winner, heading out now to profile it

Thanks EScott!

Made some more progress on the chopper.

Tapered the Tang (Slight)

Using the O1, it is amazingly soft I kept putting slight bends due to the length of this knife. The grinds are not as crisp as I would like but I will clean them up after HT.

so glad you nixed the recurve! This guy looks wicked awesome buddy. Personally, I'd smooth out the hump a bit at the top of the handle, but I dig this design bro

Thanks Lorien, are you referring to the hump in the middle of the handle or the one above the Plunge?

middle, I really like that one above the plunge

One of the things I like about the first blade (Topic of this thread) is the handle. The palm of my hand sits perfectly in that groove, I made it a bit dramatic to begin with (Hit it with the 10" wheel to get the radius)I have fairly large hands so I will most likely be toning it down along the way.

BTW Lorien, our little project will get a bit of shop time this week. I will keep you posted!

OK Mike, this one is just practice... sounds like I have a Turner SanMai Billet coming my way for this little guy. Thanks Mike.

Gracias Claudio!

O1 HT Info:
Heat to 1500F hold for 30 Min. Quench in 11 Sec Oil
Temper: 420F for 1Hr
Temper: 475F for 1 Hr

Ground down to final Thickness, I also added (Pre HT) a shallow Choil to allow for choking up. I am aware not everyone is a fan but I find them Very useful.

Thanks AznInvazn thanks for commenting... I haven't worked out the details on the handle yet, Should have it worked out by the weekend. I will keep you posted

got some time in the shop lastnight, I am fighting what feels like the flu and a deep chest cough. I won't let that slow me down too much!

Since I fully hardened the O1 to mid handle I wanted to make sure this wasn't going to snap during heavy use. So I needed to draw temper the spine, I reached out to John Doyle and he had some great suggestions. (Thanks John)
After washing with soap and hot water, clean with Acetone then Denatured Alcohol. I placed the edge into a pan of water to ensure the heat didn't reach the cutting edge. I then clamped a brass bar to one of the sides of the spine, I heated from the brass side. It is easy to get surface blue quickly if you torch directly to the steel, this way I know the heat is passing through the brass and through the O1 via conduction. on the handle I was not to worried about getting it hot directly with the torch.

Here is an after shot... you can see the Blue line and the water line - Looks Beautiful to me!

Wow!
I'm liking the way it looks like that!

I'm just worrying that if I hang around here too much, I'll get the urge to try and make my own knives too...
lol!

Keep up the good work!

This has been a fun little project! I have gotten quite a bit of work done, been a little slow on the updates...

Made up the scales, went pretty simple compared to the "Tweener". I am not completely happy with the grinds on this guy, so I will definitely be putting this guy to use myself. Good way to justify hanging onto a blade for "Testing". I have contoured the handle and am currently working on the sheath, I will take more photos as I progress.
