:rolleyes:Jager and rootbeer ...

OK, now you've instilled fear in me.

I've achieved a suitable glow from Pappy van Winkle ... straight up. In fact, I'd better stop Pappying before I go that little bit too far!:D

OP, I am drinking Black Label right now...budget:grumpy:. How much better is Blue label and that Pappy?

I have a bottle of Blue.......traded a few cigars for it at Blade 08.......

Only broke it out once, at my Army Brother's graduation from OCS.

Still have over half it left.....waiting for the next "occasion"

Never had Pappy

So is it that good? I have never had it. At the store that stuff is like 200+

Blue Label is smoother with more interesting flavors ... yet still fairly subtle and concentrated for a blend. Definitely a more interesting dram.

Pappy goes right at the heart of Bourbon's classic mix of flavors -- caramel, vanilla, and just the right hint of burnt oak. Oh ... and astonishingly mellow with a great "nose". It will sneak up on you. One shot too many ... and you're a happy, loose-limbed fellow.:D

Hmm. I'd say Black Label has the basic character of Blue Label, but Pappy is just in a class all its own. If you like Bourbon at all, you need to get your lips around some. If you're going to make it to Easton, I'll pack along a bottle of Pappy's 20 -- let me know.:)

Oh ... and join us at Blade '10. Jerry is astonishingly generous with his favorite whiskey. You would definitely have a shot or 3 of Blue if you joined us at the Fountain. I might also bring along some unusual single malts.

[Can't be more quantitative than this. The appreciation of whisky/whiskey is inherently subjective.]

I don't really have a large basis for comparison

Actually, I like a Glenfiddich 18 Year...buttery smokey flavor....more. ( I am drinking Jager and rootbeer.....and I like it!!!:eek::D)

Don't get me wrong though, it is nice.....enjoyed it with a Montecristo Media Noche cigar.

But I wouldn't drop 225+ on a bottle...

When I hear you peeps talk like that 'bout Bourbon,,, the regrett sneaks up on me for not liking the taste,,,

And yes, once in a while, like every 5 years or so, I try it again when someone offers me 'nectar from the Gods', and I always nearly want to puke when the taste hit my taste buds,,,

Damn shame it is ! But I really can't help it,,,

Only have been drunk for like a handful of times in my life and this was when I was a teen,,,

I feel like this around wine......doesn't really come up that often, but holidays....nice dinners....I would rather drink rubbing alcohol.

Unfortunately I have it with all alcoholic beverages,,, most I can manage is half a glass of champagne on New Year,,, :o

As usual you deliver! Thanks for the comparison. I still am not sure about Easton. I should know soon hopefully. I really need to make a show though. You all are such a cool bunch. Get us all together and it seems to make such a dynamic group. I will let you know and thanks for the generous offer:)

I hear ya! More reason to make it to the shows:D I might try to find some of the Pappy though. If OP says it is good I need to check it out.

Just trying to be helpful.

Pappy is a pain to find. And expensive ... but not nearly as expensive as JWB. I think I parted with $100US for this bottle.

I feel for Chibbi. Truly, all it takes is one bad experience, especially when young, to remove all the pleasure from alcohol. If it ain't fun, just don't do it. There are many more things in this life to enjoy.:)

Well 100 is not so bad compared to JWB. I will try to find some. Thanks OP:)

Is Wild Turkey 101 bourbon? I like that. I really don't drink that much fancy stuff. The highest I really go is Jack Daniels Single Barrel. Not sure what that is considered?

Absolutely WT101 is bourbon. I've got some here, along with an older brother or two.:)

JD is a different animal -- a Tennessee sipping whiskey. Can't be a bourbon if it isn't distilled in Kentucky. There are only two surviving TN whiskeys: JD and George Dickel. In addition to a number of small differences in distillation, TN whiskeys finish up with a long, slow filtration through quite a bit of maple charcoal. This removes a lot of congeners and other impurities, producing what most folks call a smoother, mellower whiskey.

You know, I've really got too much whiskey/whisky around this house. People would think I'm a lush.:o

It's pitiful.

4 shots of Pappy 20 year, a bit of stir-fried chicken, and I'm out.:(

Age sucks.

Night all.
