Two griptilians purchased - DULL.

I am just a typical Canadian, trying to be friendly and helpful:p
So no one suspects when your country begins its move to take over the world...Insidious...I like it!! ;)

If you don't send em to Benchmade, you could send em to richard j (a forumite here) and he can probably reprofile the blades aaand give you a screaming sharp knife to boot using his paper wheels.

I've paid $650 for Randalls (from the shop) only to have them arrive dull as a butter knife. It's nothing new. But I agree, it's just not right.

On the other hand, I never needed to re-profile a Randall fresh from the shop. They may not come scary sharp but the edge geometry is usually right, all you need is finish putting a razor edge on them. Usually, I just spend an hour on a strop in order to achieve a very sharp, convex edge (I am talking about O1 steel, no experience with SS Randalls).

Agreed. The stainless blades are more difficult to put a razor's edge on, but the edge geometry is the same as the tool steel blades.

I have 3 mini grips and not one was dull. The blade bevel is, however, pretty obtuse and cuts better after you rebevel the edge to less than 30 degrees.

This is how I get my knives super razor sharp after sharpening them on a stone using any technique.

Instead of stropping or using a blade steel, I polish the edge on my bench grinder buffing wheel using jeweler's rouge.

(If you don't have a buffing wheel, the blade steel for sharpening kitchen knives also will get your knife razor sharp.) This is how I do it. Holding the knife as you normally would, I use the hilt as the radius center and move the tip of the blade in an arc like you would use a compass/protractor to draw a circle across the blade steel. And then repeat on the other side over and over until sharp.

I hope this helps.

Mike

update:

Purchased two MORE knives:

Another benchmade mini griptilian (the other two have been sent back to benchmade)

and a Spyderco Delica 4.

Believe it or not, the griptilian is sharper than the Delica, absolutely shave you bald sharp. =)
