two homemade mycarta

I use either a 5.5" x 8" baking pan or a 6" x 12" mold that I made for the burl stuff. Remember the better quality of resin that you can use the better off you will be. Epoxy is the best and even then try to get as much info on it as you can from the company that makes it.

I could not agree more. The best quality epoxies end up with the qualities we look for in knife handles. Clear (or near clear), high impact and UV protection are some things to look for when shopping for epoxy resin.

I want to expand on what I posted before. If you are interested in trying to make homemade micarta then by all means use the cheapest resin that you can get. Understand that it will not be as good as it could be but it will save you money while you learn how to do it. Once you get the tricks of making it down I would highly suggest moving on to a better epoxy. If you are making to use on a personal knife then by all means use what you wish. If you are putting it on a knife to be sold or if you are making the material itself to be sold then please...please consider using something better as far as the resin you are using. Let anyone buying the knife or material know what it can or can not stand up to. To the original poster the stuff you made looks really good. Solid with good colors. Combined with a handy looking knife it makes a great package.
