I designed a couple of knives yesterday. These knives feature longer handles, with the handles designed to maximize the usable length. (What is it Phil calls this measurement? I can't recall.) One is a utility knife that recalls the Sylvrfalcn and shows off the swedge I like to do now. The second knife is a Bushcrafting knife. I'm excited about this one because its been a while since I have designed a 4" (full size) bushcrafting knife. Anyway, pics of the patterns are here now and we will add pics as the knives progress.

Sweet! I really like them both, I want to play with the new full sized one, I'll try to land one with a wooden handle once the smoke clears :) And damn, I could have some serious photographic fun with the smaller one!

Nice! Looking forward to seeing how these progress. Thanks for sharing.

I like the look of the little shorty! That swedge looks pretty slick on the little blade!

I like your longer handled designs as I find them to work best with my larger sized hands.

The new full size bush crafting knife design looks very nice to me.

I really like the look of your current Sylvrfalcen design with regards to the blade shape and the look of the overall blade/handle length ratio even though I'm not sure there is quite enough handle length for my sized hand? (I haven't actually handled one yet.)

It is good to see another design featuring this particular swedged type blade shape...But I'm kind of thinking that with the longer handle that the blade proportions would benefit from adding another 1/4" or so to the blade length in front of the ricasso?

Awesome! Always fun to see new designs. Looking forward to the end results.

Nice looking mock ups. I could see the new bushcrafting knife being part of a trio...

It is slated to be part of a trio. THIS IS THE COLLABORATION KNIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There will be more information coming on this collaboratrion, but suffice it to say that I am very excited to be working with two other makers on this project. The collaboration trio will consist of a handmade folder by a stellar maker, an axe by another fantastic maker, and my humble knife. I'm very honored to have been considered for this.

We'll see on the length. I don't discount that. I've changed blade or handle length a couple of times before because of customer suggestions and never went back to the previous lengths. You may be right. The sylvrfalcn is an edc style pocket carryable knife. Its more for opening boxes than any kinda hard use. The handle isn't big. Great comments. Thanks.

Next steps done. Today the knives will be pre heat treat ground, and tapered. (We have two 3/32" thick Scandi's and the rest will be tapered convex 1/8" knives.)

The bush crafting knife is looking really good. Very intrigued to see how this looks in final form.

It is nice to see a couple of new designs Andy. I like the 4" bushcrafting model in particular. It reminds me of a Bushfinger blade shape with a Bushcrafter-esque handle design. Very nice! My initial thought on the Sylvrfalcn XL is that I would like to see the blade taller rather than longer, so that the blade height is even with the bottom of the guard (i.e. "guardless".)

The handle term you were trying to remember is "effective handle length." It is the measurement along the bottom of the handle from the center of the first finger depression to the back corner. I wrote about the importance of this measurement in several threads, but it was my friend Jim ("joarthur") who coined the term in this thread.

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...odels/page3?highlight=Effective+handle+length

Assuming you used 1/4" graph paper for your drawings, the effective handle length on both models looks to be approximately 3-7/8". That should work well for thick finger folks and provide good grip maneuverability for the rest of us with average size hands.

 I like how this 4" is looking. Can't wait to see the finished result!

The blade is backwards on that bush crafting knife. Seriously, cut the paper pattern along the vertical line that goes through the guard and reattach the blade rotated 180 degrees keeping the horizontal lines parallel. That would be a WORKHORSE! Looks like a keeper even if it is almost correct--- remember -- THIN IS IN!!!

BTW, I do like the downswept blade angle. I think it really helps in most of the things you use a knife for.

I like the looks of both of them. I like the guard on the smaller knife personally.
