Two New Designs - Nessmuk Trio Collaboration

Like that smaller knife, is the one in Osage the original Sylvrfalcen? Can you tell me the blade length on the new one, could not tell well in the paper cut out, about 3inches?

The blade is backwards on that bush crafting knife. Seriously, cut the paper pattern along the vertical line that goes through the guard and reattach the blade rotated 180 degrees keeping the horizontal lines parallel. That would be a WORKHORSE! Looks like a keeper even if it is almost correct--- remember -- THIN IS IN!!!

BTW, I do like the downswept blade angle. I think it really helps in most of the things you use a knife for.

OK. First I want to point out that these designs were motovated by the request thread. The request was for a big handle on a 3" blade. I used two handle patterns to try to make this happen, the Woodsman and the Bear Paw. The only design that I liked was the Sylvrfalcn-ish looking one. Then a longer blade was requested in this thread. Honestly the request was for 1/4", but I re drew the knife with a few changes and a 4" blade. It came out awesome IMHO. Now, I did draw up your idea Swo, and it is a good looking knife. (And one of the quickest and simplest designs I've ever done.) BUT, when we checked with the pattern we recognized the knife. Its basically a Woodchuck. Is it different enough to make.... Yea, why not.

Looking good! The new model "B" seems close to those other two but just enough difference to be interesting. I like it, I like the "cut corner" on the back of the handle.

First of all, thanks for listening. What I find missing from the FBF lineup, and maybe it's got to do with my weak wrists, is a knife with a blade to handle angle less than 180 degrees. I think these are probably the closest that I can think of, but even seeing your picture of the blade rotation sketched out, I'm still wanting a little more. Hopefully this picture helps, but I still think it needs more belly, but as I found out this morning, sketching a blade profile is harder than it would seem.

Why the pointy little guards? Is this due to the collaboration? Your traditional guards would seem far more comfortable.

Swo, are you shooting for something that more closely resembles a CRK Insingo profile?

I like the point farther to the center more. It would be better for drilling... No?

Have you modified the design of "model A" or is the longer blade dimension that you have reference above actually to "model B"?

I wasn't really sure how to best openly critique your new design and I didn't want to overreach and step on the toes of you... the knife designer.

I was originally thinking that the new "model A" might have better symmetry and balance with the handle by also having a longer blade. I was really wanting you to just go back and look again at the Sylvrfalcn-ish blade shape and see if by somehow doing some stretching/lengthening that you could find some improvement for this new overall design. I figured that by suggesting a smallish "1/4" or so" of lenghth added to the front of the ricasso might be enough to get you to look again at your design.

Well if so... I'm looking forward to seeing this new "revised knife with a few changes and a 4" blade".

Actually I was just looking at your drawing for "model A" above (dated 8/3) and it is showing ~4" blade.

Vance's post of the 3" bladed blank sample below your post was throwing me off.

A 4" Sylvrfalcn design would be a cool knife! I'm looking forward to future progress on the design.

Alright, can I play along. Here's a little pic of the pattern for the folder I will be building for our collaboration with Liam. This slipjoint was specifically designed with bushcraft in mind. Notice there is no choil or kick to get caught up on things in the bush. The blade shape has a continuous curve so you can make fuzz sticks or whittle with ease. And, since it's a colab, I have Andy's permission to use the bullseye lanyard tube on these.

Hope you're all as excited for this as I am.

Really like the looks of the bushcrafting knife. Just the right size, and just the right amount of belly.

Very cool folder. Wonder what size the axe will be in this trio?
