Two New Designs - Nessmuk Trio Collaboration

Very cool folder. Wonder what size the axe will be in this trio?

Last I talke to Liam he mentioned in the 15" range? Said he was going to put some lightening cuts in the head too to keep it light weight.

That reminds me, my slip joint will be 4" closed.

I like both. The first is similar to the one you worked with my son on at Trackrock:

Now if the blade of the model a is close to that clip point in the pic above, that would be a killer design, about 3.5 to 4 inches.

Have you modified the design of "model A" or is the longer blade dimension that you have reference above actually to "model B"?

I wasn't really sure how to best openly critique your new design and I didn't want to overreach and step on the toes of you... the knife designer.

I was originally thinking that the new "model A" might have better symmetry and balance with the handle by also having a longer blade. I was really wanting you to just go back and look again at the Sylvrfalcn-ish blade shape and see if by somehow doing some stretching/lengthening that you could find some improvement for this new overall design. I figured that by suggesting a smallish "1/4" or so" of lenghth added to the front of the ricasso might be enough to get you to look again at your design.

Well if so... I'm looking forward to seeing this new "revised knife with a few changes and a 4" blade".

Criticize away Pol. This is the best place, and you all are the best folks to get criticizm from. Criticism is one reason for this thread, creating demand the second. Don't hold back with me, but don't take offense if I don't take your advice. My friend from here Swonut one time told me one of my designs was as ugly as his grandmothers gout ridden toe, and there were no hard feelings. I actually took it as a challenge and sent him one to play with when they were ready to go. So I can take it, feel at home here.

Alright, can I play along. Here's a little pic of the pattern for the folder I will be building for our collaboration with Liam. This slipjoint was specifically designed with bushcraft in mind. Notice there is no choil or kick to get caught up on things in the bush. The blade shape has a continuous curve so you can make fuzz sticks or whittle with ease. And, since it's a colab, I have Andy's permission to use the bullseye lanyard tube on these.

Hope you're all as excited for this as I am.

I don't know if they are as excited as me, but in addition to the excitement I feel extremely honored to be doing a collab with you and Liam.

I wish I knew a way to make this colab mine! Looks great guys

We are going to make 15 sets. I have no idea how they will be sold, but there will be a good few to buy.

This collaboration trio has sparked my interest...fingers crossed he ups it to a 2.25# head on a 19" handle for the axe. Excites to see what handles/scales get put on the knives

He did an awesome job on that. How cool would it be for him if Andy let him help name the new model

OK, here is the ground blade ready for heat treat. Still has the finish belts. Pictured with it is my J.Oeser barlow that I got a few years back. Amazing knife!

We'll have several avail next week. Including 3/32" thick Scandi models, and a few in 1/8" w a tapered tang.

Well thats awesome. I'll keep posted!

I'd love to "field trial" that smaller version on some animals this fall.

I would be interested to see your results! I can't wait to put a Fiddleback to use on some animals this year.

I've got Antelope, Elk, and Deer tags for big game, plus a few of small game and bird hunts planned already.

I'll ask again: why did you choose to go with a pointy guard on this one? It's quite different than your standard guard.

Dude, I am the one who is honored. When I proposed this to you and Liam, I'll be honest, I was freaking nervous you were both going to just laugh. I've said it before, you are one of my main inspirations for even getting into knife making.

Now we just need to kick Liam in the butt and get some axe action. :p

Love the way these are looking.

Jared, so just out of curiosity, if there is no kick, what stops the blade from hitting the back spring?

There is a tab on the spring that sticks up and acts like a kick to stop it from bottoming out. Some Japanese knifemaker's do a similar thing. I have been using it on another one of my models and it works great.

Nice. I lie the bushcraft knife. The longer the better on the handle. Also, soften the angles on the back end. I am excited to see more!!

I'm excited to see it for sure.

What? No choil????

We don't need no stinking choils.
