Some of my blades I like so much, that I want to buy seconds of them. I have this inert fear , that if I lose one, I won't be able to replace it , even if it's a factory knife. Plus, you can have one in two places at once.

How many of you own doubles of knives , and how do you feel about owning two of the same ?
Some guys own that one, good knife all their lives , and never worry about it , but I like to have back-up.

I have done that with many things not just knives. If I find a pair of boots or a jacket that fit well and are comfortable I will purchase another and stow it away. Flashlights is another as is JW Scotch but I think that's another fetish...:D

:)

Yep, I do the same thing. Sometimes, if I like a knife enough, I may buy every variation made: different colors, plain edge, part serrated, blade coatings vs bead blasted or stone washed blade. It's a sickness.

I always have a spare opinel no8, also buy a spare tenacious every now and then. I always end up with giving them away and buying another one.
I think it is not really necessary to keep second opinels in stock. It doesn't look like they'll go out of production soon and it is easy enough to buy a new one quickly if need be.

I'm guilty as well. Just got a Buck Vantage 340 and I am already looking for another 2 or 3 for the future. I'm a sucker for good deals. I had 6 of the same rifle at one time...

Yeah, I have purchased about 4 Benchmade 710s. They discontinued that option shortly after. So, I'm glad I did it. Looking at it from a practical side. You'll probably never NEED a double. But it is nice to know that if it were lost, or say confiscated at the airport or something like that, That you wouldn't have to worry about never having you favorite design ever again.

You may be shocked to discover that many of us here share this same odd form of OCD :) I have a bunch of doubles. Usually, it's after I use a knife for a while, decide I love the design, and then buy an updated model, or buy another before it gets discontinued. My biggest mistake: not buying a second Cuda Maxx before they, and the company that made them, were all gone.

Joe, how come you find the Cuda Maxx so special? I own a Cuda as well and although it is a fine knife, there are many other that I find at least equally desirable.

Just curious :).

~Paul~

PS I have a large number of doubles och tripples ;)

Two carbon Schrade Sharpfingers and two 34OTs. Two Benchmade 856s and two Boker SUCOMs.

I have doubles (or more) of quite a few of my knives.

If it was worth buying one it's worth buying another :p:thumbup:

I have two Benchmade AFCK 806D2's Actually I have three, but one is a real beater with a too-short blade. I don't really count it, since it has as date with the belt grinder soon. I also have two Benchmade 750 Pinnacles just in case I lose my old faithful working knife. It was the first 'spare' I ever bought.

Other duplicates:

4 Spyderco Byrd Catbyrds
4 Beretta Loveless Hunters (bought after the first one was stolen by a neighborhood dog!)
3 Spyderco manix 2 (every variant except CE)
?who knows how many Mora Clippers and Craftsmen
3 Schrade (USA) Loveless hunters
3 John Primble peanuts

I have triple small Sebenzas, double Lacoshas, triple Pal 36s and about a dozen Buck 110s. Every purchase made perfect sense at the time.:)

Paul,

Right off the bat, there aren't many high-quality folders with >5" blades. Metal handles and frame lock, flipper, D-2 steel, and an awesome blade shape and grind (I favor the bowie, love the dagger also) = a knife not duplicated by any other production knife IMO. Although I admit to not having paid close attention to this space the past couple of years, perhaps something has slipped by me that's in the same class?

And don't get me wrong, the Maxx is my favorite blade that I *don't* have doubles of. Many of my other faves I do have doubles of ... I have at least two 710s, I think I have 4 Calypso/Caly evolutions, and I'd tell you how many delicas I have but I don't think I can count that high :)

3 Millies
3 Para Millies
3 frn Stretch
3 Tenacious
6 Opinels
a dozen or more Moras :p

I have doubles of Spyderco Mini Manix, Buck 110, Spyderco Delica and Swamprat Ratmandu. Most of the doubles are different variety of the same knife.

As others have said, I got doubles because I like the knife and in some cases such as the Mini Manix and the Ratmandu, if one knife is lost, they are not easy to replace.
