It's beginning to look like I will NEVER get a kydex sheath for my CS Trailmaster!
First I tried River City sheaths, as Mike Sastre advertises his 'Southern Comfort' kydex sheath for the Trailmaster. Sastre doesn't list his prices but I think the above sheath would be well over a hundred dollars. That was 3 months ago and I still haven't received a response from him after 2 e-mails.[hey, I've got a bit of pride, two begging e-mails should be enough] Perhaps Sastre is putting a twist on Seinfeld's 'soup nazi' ; "No sheath for you!"
Then I stumbled onto Robert Humelbaugh's Survival Sheath Systems. I was delighted, as Humelbaugh lists dozens of sheaths without having to send him the knife. As a Canadian, I didn't have to worry about shipping the heavy Trialmaster across the border. I eagerly sent him my $49.95. [ a pretty reasonable price I thought]
That was on May 23rd 2010. Humelbaugh states that it takes 4 to 6 weeks to get a sheath from him. On July 9th I sent him a respectfull e-mail asking for a progress report. He hasn't responded as of today, July 28th. Today I also phoned him, but no one answered and the mailbox is full.
I read a warning from another would be customer of his today, who was stiffed for the price of two sheaths, which made my realize that Humelbaugh [a less goodhearted individual than myself might call him a sleazebag ] has doubtless cut and run.
I used Paypal, I wonder if I'll get my money back?

Yes, it does.

Mike Sastre did you no wrong. He simply was unable to do business with you.
Robert Humelbaugh has other complaints in the FEEDBACK forum, which is where this is going.

Do your research BEFORE you send money to people. ;)

I can recommend Jeff Law AKA Rainwalker. Great work at reasonable prices. Although I think due to this highly attractive combo Jeff now has a pretty healthy backlog.

Surely there must be more than one kydex bender in Canada?

And yes you can get your money back through PayPal if too much time has not elapsed.

It's worth noting that Humelbaugh's website is still up with absolutely no indication that he's apparently abandoned the ship. His website is pretty impressive so I wonder how many individuals are still sending him their money.

I have had no problems with Smashed Cat Kydex. Great product and great communication. Give them a try.

The following is hopefully the last thing I'll have to say about Mike Sastre; As Esav says Mike didn't do me a' wrong', but he has obviously chosen not to do business with me, with no explanation. That's not illegal, but in my opinion it is rude and inconsiderate. After all, I already was a customer of his, he sold me a very nice sheath for my Spyderco Warrior and I was looking forward to a long business relationship with him.
I guess I'll never know why he chose not to continue to do business with me. At least so far I haven't had to resort to a shrink to deal with my feelings of rejection.

Eric Doran aka"Hoopster" makes great quality kydex for very reasonable prices and the turnaround is very quick.
He made me a sheath for my StreetBeat for $35 and it was in my hands in a week!!
Hes in Kentucky.

Mr. Turko,

I recommended Kiah S., you said that you were going to contact him, and are now advising about a failed attempt to go with ANOTHER kydex mangler.

When someone who is tested and proven is recommended, the prudent thing to do is conduct business with that person....to ignore those recommendations, and "go it alone" is to invite a negative experience into your realm......or perhaps more aptly, you possibly got what you deserved.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Eric at On Scene Tactical is a grade A sheath maker and he's in Ontario Canada. He has a lot of knives on had as well and his prices are more than fair. Definitely worth checking out.

I do sheaths as a hobby and due to my full time job my turn around times aren't exactly stellar, but if you want to discuss this further drop me a line.

I will also recommend On/Scene Tactical!
I love the man's work and own a few of his sheaths (some for knives I don't even own), but my experience in dealing with him in the past has kept me from ordering from him any more. I've bought and/or traded for knives if they came with an On Scene Tactical sheath, but I'll let someone else place the order for one, something I'd prefer not to do again. For the record though, his work is excellent.

LOL, I think he means "Mashed Cat Outfitters", www.mashedcat.com, and yep, Eric does make great kydex sheaths! He's definitely very good with communication and his turnaround time is usually pretty quick.:thumbup:

Eric...Hell yah! Good guy, good sheaths. End of.

Eric is in Canada, and probably has the TM on hand. If you can get ahold of him, that's your best bet. Otherwise, there's no shortage of plastic benders with good reps. I'd recommend Scott (Steelnut) myself if you wanna try again.

As for Robert, he has a forum here in the maker's section. He's not responding to anyone, but people are getting their sheaths eventually. Probably a good idea to post a message with the rest there, including your order #, to bring it to his attention. You probably won't get a response from him, but you may get your sheath faster. I doubt PP will give you a refund at this point.

I had already paid Humelbaugh at Survivalsheaths at the time I read your posting. I probably will contact Kiah S. in the future but for the next little while I'll be licking my wounds.
Thanks for your input.
