On second hand, if Jim doesn't go for those good khukuris, it means more for the rest of us forumites....

You underestimate yourself, Jim. For people who are not feebleminded or lacking in normal willpower, the point of no return is generally agreed to be 13, and some strong-minded individuals have even exceeded that number of khukuris without symptoms. Furthermore, khukuris bought for gifts don't count (how many goldfish do you have? Goldfish like khukuris, too, you know.) You have nothing to worry about for a good while yet.

-Cougar :{)

P.S. On the other hand, khukuris bought in secret and shamefully concealed from the other forumites count double. Just a few of those and you'll soon be drooling and gibbering at each new UBDOTD posted -- beware!

If need be, I can always show up at the Cantina with a half-gallon bottle of Everclear (151 proof grain spirits) and get Uncle very very happy. Then he'll be more than willing to tell all about Jim (I just hope Uncle's speech is still understandable).

[@#%&*! double post!]

Rusty, I think you're onto something there! IIRC, during the late unlamented Cold War, scientists in the late unlamented Soviet Union experimented with interrogation techniques looking for a "truth serum". They tried sodium pentothol, amytal, LSD, all kinds of nasty stuff - turned out the best results were obtained with plain ol' ethyl alcohol. In vino veritas!
A word of caution though - Everclear is 190 proof. Though it has been several decades (mercifully) since I personally experimented with the stuff, I am reasonably sure that a half gallon is far in excess of the usual therapeutic dose

[Can't @#%*! spell either!]

Speaking professionally, I would agree with Berkley. One or two glasses and you are done for. 1/2 gallon and you are dead.

Harry

Berk, I was glad to see that link.

In Nevada we are no longer allowed anything stronger than 151 proof, especially in grain spirits, since it is claimed the 190 proof/95% Everclear can be substituted for absolute ethanol (a percent or two higher than) in making illegal drugs of some sort.
Thus, we can buy Everclear here but it's been watered down to 151 proof/75.5%. To repeat, I'm glad to hear some other states still have the original strength available to them.

Too bad we can't do like in the 50's when if someone tried to stick their nose into anything that wasn't any of their business the accepted response was a quick punch in the schnozz.

PS- I'd decant the Everclear into an empty half gallon of vodka so Uncle didn't catch on too quick.

This khukuri which I shall name "Jim's Bane" arrived today and I would agree fully with Uncle Bill's assessment. I am especially pleased with the habaki. Definitely a step up the quality assurance ladder and hope this becomes a standard HI khukuri item.
