UBDOTD! Remember is it a blem? I have the twin by Sanu and it's no blem. Pix.

The knife was not drawn in anger. It was out, in my hand, and I dropped it on the concrete and dinged the point. I could have saved it but not now. It is a total loss. My own clumsiness brought on the fit of anger.

Then to make matters worse I went into the computer shed, opened up a pack of Khukuri cigarettes and set here staring at this screen and smoked five cigarettes one right after the other.

Thanks, Howard. Yangdu is okay. Chokpa was present, too, and I scared hell out of her.

I am okay except I must recover from the shame of failure. When I lose my temper I am not myself and hate the person that I become.

Confessional!

A loud string of blasphemy and biologically improbable expletives would be excusable at this point, but ...

Total loss?

Couldn't somebody with a belt sander could grind the spine down in a gradual slope to the new point, quenching every few seconds to avoid overheating, and end up with a useful tool, and a good looking one too, though slightly shorter?

It was less steel to remove, of course, but I did once with a Bob Engnath blade I had finished into a pretty little "bird and trout" knife several years ago, after I discovered that it wasn't tempered for icepick duty.

Harry, is right. Time for some puja!

I don't want to look at that knife again today -- not ready yet -- reminds me of my weaknesses. But, I'll get it out and take a pix. James is right. Somebody can save this knife but not me.

It is a perfect knife with 3/4 inch of the tip gone. It really is worth saving and I'll sell it off for $50 bucks as is.

Too early for beer, Steven, but thanks for suggestion. At least I have learned that much. Don't get alcohol involved when you are out of control or recovering from the loss of control. If I'd been drinking I'd have probably gone inside, pulled out my antique .38 and tried to SHOOT the knife!

:
Been there and done that Bro. I used to hate that one inside of me as well, but that has changed and in doing so has changed me. I pray that he does not come out of me again!
It ain't a pretty sight and I always hated what things he did which is much worse than what you done.
I pray that all are better now and thankful no real harm was done!

Thanks, Bro. I cannot remember one time in my 66 years of losing my temper and then not regretting it -- many times to the point of tears but it is always too late. When I saw the fear in poor little Chokpa's eyes and Yangdu grab her forehead you know exactly how I felt and what I felt like.

I'll take it, Uncle Bill, if no one else has claimed it and if the only prpblem is the tip being broken off.

That sounds good -- and if the original buyer would still like to get this khuk, now a genuine "Uncle Bill custom," please let him have it.

'S okay Uncle, just be thankful nothing worse happened. Remember that thread many moons ago about the Kami that almost got skewered by a 20" sirupati when it got loose off the anvil? Stop, step back, evaluate and start again. The keys to staying safe in making AND using knives.

I like to take out my khukris once in a while and admire their beauty. Sometimes I have to actively remind myself not to get too complacent with three+ pounds of sharpened steel in the hand. Even though it happened to you, I'M certainly taking this as another gentle reminder from the Powers That Be.
So don't worry Uncle. Certainly we're not going to be as hard on you as you will be on yourself.

However, as pennance you have to put up lots of goodies at absurdly low prices!

You bet I Know Bro!!!
Don't be too hard on yourself, just try to remember the next time the other one comes out. He can be controlled as you know.

As to the khukuri that has lost its point. If Steven wants it and it's okay to send you could ship it to me and I will work whatever magic I can on it and ship it to Steven with no charge to anyone. Just to help out a Bro and a Cuz.

That means the blade will get a new point and blended in as good as possible and the edge sharpened beyond belief with the handle and all the rest given as high a polish as I can.

Oh!! And I will give it priority over my little Chainpuri as well!!
I can hardly wait to get both of those plain blades finished!!!!!!!

Some days you can carry a pail of milk from the milkshed to the kitchen without spilling a drop no matter how close to the rim it is.

Then there's the other days you can't get it halfway without managing to drop the full bucket squarely on BOTH big toes.

The Khonvention left me with an emotional hangover all week. Sometimes things go too good for too long and you start to worrying bout just *when* the you-know-what is going to hit the fan.

Reminds me of that prayer that goes:

" God, I've done alright so far today, I haven't done this, that, and the other, but in a few minutes, God, I'm gonna have to get out of bed and that's when I'm really going to need help!"

Yvsa, I can't tell you how touched I am by your kindness. I really don't know what to say except Thank You! If Uncle BIll decides that the khuk can be saved, I would be more than honored for you to work your magic on the blade. Again, I thank you.

Bill,
Just goes to show that you're recovering nicely from your heart problem.

And I send prayers of peace and healing to the Sisters.

No one was badly hurt, thankfully.....and the rest is small stuff. I learned that lesson the hard way.
Tomorrow WILL be better.
Dan

You're worth Every consideration Bro. One slip no oftener than it occours does not a monster make. I am sure that you've beat yourself up even more than Yangdu might have done. Time to go on.

Steven, not a problem! I got some real good friends that spring from yer part of the world. I learned long ago thet the Coonasses were a lot like the ndns and when thar yer friends thar yer friends and when thar not Look Out!!
It has become my philosophy in my later years to be one of the good guys. I keep trying and I could never repay the kindnesses that have been shown to me.
The only way that is humanly possible is to keep passing them along. Only trouble is the more ya pass along the more that come to a person.
It don't work if ya do it fer what comes yer way. I have seen thet happen as well.
Just glad to be one of the guys here along with all the others. Y'all make me proud to be a human being.
