Ugly Betty Sales News

Sorry about the lack of pictures, but I just unboxed a pair of uglies, one a 4.7 CFV and the other a 5.1 20CV.
Both are beautiful knives as far as I'm concerned. I can't see why they are uglies, and they do have the marking under the flag.
The 4.7 came with black canvas scales and the 5.1 with natural canvas, both with black sheaths.
The balance on both is great, and the 4.7 handle might be just a tiny bit more perfect of a fit for my grip.

Interesting comment regarding the handle/grip comparison Fancier, why do you think that this is? Clearly the 5.1 has a thicker blade compared to the 4.7. I am assuming the UB 5.1 is new spec., and I would assume the handles would be very similar between the two. But I don't have my new spec. 5.1 yet to compare.

There is just a bit more real estate than I really need on the 5.1 handle, but the slightly smaller 4.7 handle is right in the Goldilocks zone for me.
On the 4.7 the contour for the first finger is a bit deeper than on the 5.1 as well. On either knife clenched in the fist my fingers don't quite touch the base of my thumb and palm, both are a great size for me.
The 4.7 is more of a spear point, the 5.1 is more of a drop point with more belly.
They have about the same amount of straight edge but the 5.1 has 3/8" or so more blade and a higher point, so the difference in sharpened edge is mostly in the curvature to the point.
For anybody that has a Koster MUCK the 5.1 is very similar in overall length, but the 5.1 balance is neutral on the first finger and the choil on the 5.1 takes away some of the sharpened edge.
The MUCK is slightly thicker but with a skeletonized handle the weight balance is at the base of the blade (about an inch more forward than the 5.1) and the blade is angled slightly lower with respect to the handle.
The MUCK also has more of a pommel flare that facilitates a two finger grip if you want to whack at things with it.

Anyone have a picture of a regular, 2nd, and Ugly Betty to compare.... I received my regular CRUV 4.7, but am waiting on the other two. I'll post some pictures up when they arrive, but wondered if anyone had some comparison pics.

Regular CFV, 2nd 3V, and Ugly(hah!) Betty CFV.

Thanks for the clarity on your thoughts. I recently purchased a new spec. 5.1 on the exchange, but have not received it yet. The pics grogimus posted in another thread shows the 5.1 being significantly larger than the 4.7. I am looking forward to comparing old and new spec. 5.1s along with 4.7.

Ugly Betty is the Deal Of the Century! Keep our secret quiet. I don't want demand to go high when they seek more.

Why do they even call them ugly betty
I can't find what's wrong with it looking at the pictures

It isn't always something you would expect to see in a photo. The specs might be a bit off as far as handles fitment, blade geometry, very mismatched bevels, or things of that nature. There is one that has a huge gash right on the guard. Anything that is so bad we wouldn't feel right selling it for even the 10% off price.

If you squint hard you can see the very small ugly betty under the flag on these.

Nice collection!

Care to share a written description of the differences between your CFV first and ugly?
If I could find the difference I would. Bevels appear matching and straight, jimping looks regular on the back of the blade and pommel, plunge lines are crisp and symmetrical, handles are fit tight... The only difference I can find is the Ugly Betty print.

Stick to your guns. Quality control is quality control for a reason, keeps customers expectations met about product quality received. Just because me and a handful of others think our UB CruV 4.7 are perfect, if they didn't pass S!K 1st quality or 2nd quality then S!K UB they shall be. Just an incredible deal, thats all!
