Ugly Stik Catfish Combo - dilemma

The ugly stick rod is a great fishing rod. However Shakespeare doesn't make great fishing gear in general IMO. The only thing I like of theirs and think is quality is the ugly stick. And honestly to me it can compare to other $100 plus dollar rods. I love how they compare to their competitors by actually performing tests. I have to say its a durable rod.

If its on a combo the reel is going to suck. You're reel is what makes a big big big difference. That is something you don't want to cheap out on. If you can't see the differences you never fished with a high end reel and a cheap POS.

Don't have many pictures . I mainly fish Tenkara (Japanese fly rod) for panfish Many times I take a Cuban yo-yo reel rigged with an egg sinker and a circle hook and fish for cats I cast it out put a tent peg in the center. When the catfish runs it just spins around the tent peg. you just pick it up when it runs out of slack in the line the circle hook pretty much sets itself. I set it out and fish with the fly rod and just keep an eye on it. I will also carry one when biking along the river they take up so little room , they are easy to fit on the bike

Roy, what type of plastic would you say they use for those Cuban hand reels? It feels pretty sturdy in the hand. Reasonable UV resistance?
I know there is a cluster of plastics factories down in Hiealeah, Florida, any clue as to which one (or more than one) makes these things? It would be neat (and probably not too cheap) to get some exotic colors and sizes.

Have no idea about the plastic . I know when they run a new batch they have about 20 colors on ebay so keep checking there.
