I don't know how it ended up in my laundry, but my favorite Case 08 half whittler went through the washer today

Luckily it was a small quick load so the knife wasn't effected too much.
A bit of minor rust spots on the main blade but that's it.

I got pretty lucky, the rust basically wiped off in a couple seconds with steel wool.
The biggest part was just flushing it with wd40 and compressed air to bring the snap back into the blades.

Now it's good to go.

You are not the first 1😉
Glad it wasn't too bad👍

That happened to me once with a modern knife and fortunately it also did well 👍🏻
It was really sparkly when it came out to 😆

No problem here just a bit of extra character
Possibly.
I don't think you can really tell that those minor rust spots were ever there, and I'm not sure about the wear on the bolsters.
There's very likely a scratch or two that weren't there before, but I couldn't really say exactly what was there before.

Completely ruined. You should know better. Now you have to call the heat treat into question as well as future delamination or splintering of the scales. Plus those rust spots could come back, and 10 times worse! Be more careful with your knives - running them through the laundry must be avoided at all costs!

🙄🙄🙄

But does it smell fresh?? ;)

Had a worse experience...a GF put my Walnut handled Fontenille-Pataud Lag in the dishwasher!:poop: It came out bloated and wrecked. Sent it to F-P for an expensive rehandle, this time in dark Horn looked really good. Then couple of years later on some VERY boring work-trip on the other side of the country it vanished. That knife clearly wasn't meant to be.....😿

Right! :D In fact I think it may be appropriate to revoke The Man Card for a while😆Or else he has to GAW part of his collection to save others from maltreatmento_O

I've run my Case Peanut through the washer, I was also pretty surprised by how little effect it had. Didn't even have new rust spots, though it already had a solid patina.

Thankfully It was a quick cycle ran on cold.

There's not to worry about the heat treat. The annealing temperature of the steel is about 1400 °F. A washing machine doesn't reach the temperature of 200°F.

Dan.
They do when overloaded and about to catch alight...:D:eek:

Joking apart, this kind of accident is very easy to do (especially if you have a large, sprawling collection...) A big enough knife could damage the clothing or even the machine! Back to Traditional Hand wash in the lake anybody? Thought not....;)
