Ultimate production woods folder?

Took a 4.5 mile hike with the family today. Felt just fine with my Mora 510 & my Victorinox GAK.

Got to put in a good word for the Ontario Rat 1. Large, solid, well made knife with a good blade. The spine on it is unusually sharp and throws a huge shower of sparks with the firesteel.

A good beater folder I like for anything is the CS American Lawman. Long enough, strong, great lock, cheap...who cares of it breaks! Not crazy about the steel. But go with an Andrew Demko version and you have one of the best folders on the planet! Saving up for it! I dont think there is anything I like better! Not a Sebenza, Hinderer, Stryder...Andrew makes my favorite!

Those are shots of Mr. Ankerson's knife he had Andrew make. It is perfect!
Great blade .

I get really jaded with putting the "Ultimate" label on anything.

The few times I've been out on day hikes or visiting my grand-folks farm, my re-profiled Boker M-Type or my LM Charge were back-up to my main blade (short Thai Aranyik knife). They have their place.

If you consider Lofty Wiseman and the Brit squaddies favorite though; the EKA Swede 92/Normark Super Swede ranks very high as an outdoors folder -

I'm wanting one too!

I was surprised to see a couple of mentions of the old Lone Wolf Harsey T-series. I have a pair of T2 Tacticals and they are sized right for woods use and very robust. My Emerson Horseman is a fine woods folder. I have some Benchmades that would fill the bill, as well. A Spyderco Manix is handy, but so is a small stockman or SAK.

The folders I carry in the woods are companion tools to the fixed-blade I'd be carrying. I always carry either a Vic OHT or Huntsman as my folder, unless I'm on a hunting trip and would be packing my old Leatherman WAVE instead.

Stay sharp,

if you are looking for a really robust, sturdy knife, the Cold Steel Pocket Bushman fills the bill.

I must say nothing better than my SAK Farmer but if I want to stress my blade my modded CS recon1 mini is strong enough ;-) and takes the bill

I agree with revolverman 357.
My CQC15 serves me well in nearly every outdoor situation I've run across around my mini-ponderosa. The tanto point, Commander belly and saw-like serrations offer essentially 3 edges for penetration, slicing and sawing.
My only frustration an occasional need for a more needle-pointed blade to slip into a really tight space. For such situations, my Persian or mini SAK on my keyring does the trick.

I have to agree with these two. My CQC-15 is my EDEWC, everyday everywhere carry and I have found it to be an exceptional tool in the woods. The Emerson's tanto point is more acute than others I've carried and found it to be more useful in penetrating or drilling. I think the recurve actually makes it easier to feather sticks. On a side note I have thought about picking up one of the new Spyderco Terzoulas. I have the original but with the steel liners I think the newer version will hold up to more abuse.

:D I had all the Normarks many years ago, including a few Super Swedes.

We had four men from B Squadron, 22nd SAS come one to go on an exercise in Montana, and three of the four men carried Super Swede's with the black plastic handle. The fourth man had a Puma White Hunter. John

Ditch the clip, and the phat bob is one of the most comfortable folders I've held, and I've held many.

I'd have to add, yet again, the Victorinox Farmer. It's a great all around woods knife and EDC folder. Now if you get technical and want a single blade folder then I would say Buck 110 for traditional and the Benchmade Griptilian 551/552 for modern.

Victorinox Farmer: The farmer has a little bit of everything that you need to play in the bush: Blade - cutting stuff of course, whittling, making tent stakes, making tools, skin an animal, etc; Saw - makes cutting wood a breeze, create saw dust for fire starting, and the ability to split large logs; Awl - it's the red headed step child of the SAK, beat it, cut with it, poke stuff, use to strike a ferro rod, etc; Large Flat head/bottle opener/wire stripper - this is your mini pry bar, repair gear, open a bottle of courage, and strip wires (for who knows what reason in the woods???); Small Flat head/can opener - open your can of tuna, scrape stuff with it, repair gear, and wish it was a completely different tool instead of a frikk'n can opener :D

Buck 110 - Tried and true folder useful for everything. Use your imagination and the uses are endless. Create tools with this one, split small branches, create wedges to split larger pieces of wood, strike a ferro rod, go bear hunting (believe me this knife has stories out there), skin whatever it is you hunted, go fishing, use to hammer tent stakes, make tent stakes, etc...

Benchmade Griptilian 551/552 - Tried and true modern folder useful for everything. Use your imagination and the uses are endless. Create tools with this one, split small branches, create wedges to split larger pieces of wood, strike a ferro rod, go hunting (create some stories out there), skin whatever it is you hunted, go fishing, do NOT use to hammer tent stakes, make tent stakes, clip it to your pocket, etc...
