I have the REI 18 and used it on a trip to Patagonia back in January. It worked great for walking around the cities, mtbing and the day hikes when we were trekking through Torres Del Paine. When not used for this, I stuffed my gear into it in my bigger pack. As to what was carried in it, weight was at a premium that trip, so basic psk, vic hunter, rain gear, water, steripen and lunch.
