Ultrex SureTouch feedback.

What is the hardness of the rubber? Is the rubber chemically bonded or vulcanized to the g10?
Just want to confirm that this is a statement is written by me. I have now joined Bladeforums and will answer any and all questions about all of the UltreX lines, Micarta, G10, and SureTouch questions you may have. I have worked for Norplex-Micarta for 44 years and am the lead person for Ultrex at this time.

I have a customer who wants me to use this product for a hidden tang knife, but the handle design he chose has palm and butt swells that come out to about an inch. Can I layer up the 3/8 and 3/16 thicknesses to make it work? I use Brownell's Acraglass as my epoxy, would that work if I rough up the surfaces I will be layering?

He is a taxidermist and will be using it extensively in his shop, so he wants to try the grippi-ness (is that a real word?) of the Suretouch. When he lets me know how he likes it, I will pass it along.

It should laminate just fine. I regularly build up thicker micarta.

If doing a laminate, mortice inthe tang for a perfect fit.

A solid attachment, like Corby bolts, is a good idea in any laminated handle, Two or three will look good and keep the handle rock solid forever.

Thanks. I was planning on a couple of corby bolts already, so it looks like I might be on the right track.

Hello. Is the new UltreX G10 made from cotton or paper? I have a couple slabs I ordered in Olive Drab. It's really hard but it's not regular fiberglass G10. It was also costs a bit less than regular G10. I'm not finished with my handles but I'm hoping this will take a high polish. Thanks so much!

G10 is Glass fiber/epoxy composite. I think the material you are thinking of in paper/linen/canvas is Micarta.

I finished the knife I mentioned above for a taxidermist. My client is very happy with the looks, and I am waiting for feedback on what he thinks about the grip. Sorry to sound dumb, but how do I add a photo of it to my post?

Thanks

It is G10. Lower priced than regular G10? I know some of the resellers were offering it with a discount to get it started. The colored G10 layer should polish or buff up just like straight G10.

Being new to Forum I wasn't sure either however; when you go to reply, there is a upload file function where you can add pictures from your computer. I just loaded a picture of a couple fillet knives I had made.

Thank knife is beautiful. Great work. Have you gotten any feedback on the "grippiness" yet?

Thanks for the complement. LMAO, he finally got back to me and said that he loves the way the grip feels, but he can't bring himself to actually use the knife, so no field experience to report back. He says he will give it to his 8 year old son when he turns 18.

I made it as a use knife, not a wall hanger...maybe I should charge more???

I'm interested in the long term durability and integrity of the rubber layers...concept is very atttactive

I just ordered some to use on a karambit project I'm working on. I'm giving it to a buddy of mine who is in the border patrol.

He runs around out in the bushes a fair amount... Hopefully he can give some feedback!
