Um...excuse me?

You still should've said something, I'm pretty sure I would've. That's straight-up preying on people's ignorance, no other way to put it. :(
I've no dog in this fight really, but as an academic argument do we really need to protect the consumer here? I mean, we live in a time where information is almost ambient. The knife brand and model is clearly marked, so 10 seconds of research would prove it a silly purchase. It's hard for me to condemn preying on ignorance when the ignorance is voluntary.

I'm sure this shop owner is a douche, but I'd love to shake the hand of whomever decided to sell bricks, crowbars, etc. Over at the Supreme brand. Genius.

One of my all time favorite movie quotes:
"If God didn't want them sheared, he would not have made them sheep."

Was the person behind the counter a manager/owner or just someone trying to pay their bills? If it's someone just getting by on a job they really don't like there's no reason to point out the poor choices by management. Chances are they already know the type of people they are working for.

Glad to hear that my collection of old junkers is such a gold mine :).

I'm glad when people can make a living running a store, capitalism is a wonderful thing and I don't begrudge a real store an appropriate markup. Actually, I will pay a little more from a local store because the taxes I pay go to the local politicians that will squander my money here in Colorado on things I don't agree with instead of someplace else. Maybe. Anyway, I feel it is best to keep those people employed in the public sector. Can you imagine the chaos and devastation if they actually landed a real job at a company where honest people work? I shudder to think. Interns everywhere would be packing pepper spray at work and the shenanigans would make most CEOs look like Barney Fife..

However, "appropriate markup" are not the right words to use here. This place is either run by the James Gang, or one of those politicians escaped into the private sector. We should have universal politician registration.

Went back yesterday and spoke with the clerk who was working, nice lady. I asked to handle the Mtech Karambit thing for 99.99 and remarked that it seemed a "little pricey" and that I've seen simlar for "much less expensive." Apparently I'm not the first person to point this out. She said that she has never seen a knife sell while she was working. She knew nothing of knives and said that she has nothing to do with pricing. I wish the owner would have been there...

This store also has a plywood mantle clock that has a german sounding name I don't recognize for 999.99. It's not an antique either, based on condition. There's also a completely ornamental old radio-like object with nonfunctional dials and no powersupply. Low price of 499.99. Several modern peices of furniture in the 1k plus neighborhood. I have no idea how they're still open, every time I pass by there's noone there.
